Just one small note. Early on you mention not remembering about the Episode IV New Hope title. And why people just called it Star Wars.
That is because there was no Episode IV/V/VI until the special editions and the prequel announcements.
Prior to that it was just Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
If you can track down the really old VHS versions prior to the Specials then you will see that again. :)
According to Wikipedia... the Episode IV was added after a re release in 1981. Although I seem to recall that in at least PAL(UK here) territory and when shown on tv it never had the New Hope etc until the Special Editions...
