A week ago in college writing class I failed the argument essay. I tried my hardest, but felt like I was at a disadvantage of some type. In fact, I almost could not process my argument in my head. I ended up spending hours of each day, before the essay was due, getting immensely frustrated and gaining large head aches. I never let an assignment fly by, but this one was an assignment I COULDN'T do. I almost felt like vomiting when it was all I could think about, even during work at my job. On the due date I only turned in a folder with the research and my thesis. Thinking about that assignment now makes me angry at myself. (INFO: My argument was on Terrorist Negotiation)
I had the same feeling attempting to do the essay as when I try to comprehend poetry. Have you ever left your hands exposed to extreme cold long enough that they became weak, then you tried to tear open a plastic bag, but simply couldn't no matter how hard you tried? A certain part of my psyche is those cold hands, but I don't know how to heat it up to start working. I can't find out what's wrong with me and it's starting to effect my future. I WILL NOT proceed in the way I want to unless I start understanding. At first I thought it was a late adolescence, but that was a couple years ago.
What is poetry? Where does a person create it from? I don't know where such poetic words come from, therefore, cannot translate their meaning.

Poetry is extremely different than prose. Prose is more thought out--in most cases--and it has a definite plot, thought out characters, and is more descriptive. Poetry is stripped down and has many different forms. There are hycoos, sonnets, free-form, slam, ect.
To me, poetry is more of a form of word vomit. I don't like to have form or thought. I just have one point I want to make and I just let the words flow. If I rhyme, then so be it, if not, then whatever. I just want to get my point across. Poetry is much more raw than prose; it comes directly from emotion; it addresses a topic head-on.
Poetry can be determined in many ways, however it offense comes as an expression of human pabulum in existence and the condition in all its forms. It comes usually from a point to be made to girth. Now, truth be told poetry comes from the frontal neural cerebral cortex, although it can be argued the heart and soul. Still, most take their poetry comes from everything. Understanding the meaning of a poem depends on the poetic age and the point. Most modern works are easier to see through than swish cheese. Certain older and nonwestern authors are not. As the case usually falls on linguistics and symbols of which have become deranged in globalization and enculturation over time. Of course everything can not be understood to the Nagel hypothesis of authorship up to the rhetorical triangle if one writes it he expects others to read it and understand. Understanding symbols falls to experience, mainly one in art and literature. Inference and interpretation logically also prevails tide heavily to pathos.
