This is probably another piece of evidence that shows that Hollywood is definitely losing its creativity. With the numerous remakes that have been released recently (for example, The Karate Kid), I just don't get why Hollywood can't always come up with a lot of new, creative and original ideas on a frequent basis, and this, I think, is what makes going to the movies on occasions worthwhile. Not to say that all the films released recently aren't any good; I just hate the idea that filmmakers come up with unoriginal ideas solely to make a quick buck without thinking so much of leaving any entertainment value for their audiences. I'm with you on this, Ekomancer; a remake for "Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a terrible idea.

Yup I agree 100%, most of Hollywood would rather pump out remakes so they don't have to really work on them, or just fluff pieces to make a quick buck off the unthinking members of the population. Occasionally good movies come around, but it's rare. The recent news that WB has decided to not wait for Joss Whedon to make a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, with the TV cast, is another horrible idea. Whedon who created it and who did the TV series (not the horrible first movie) wanted to do a big screen version with the TV cast, but WB has decided to go ahead and make the movie without Whedon and without any of the TV cast, I predict an epic fail.

Here's a list of some other movies that are currently slated to be remade.

Arthur, Romancing The Stone, When Worlds Collide, Fantastic Voyage, Meatballs, Metropolis, The Dirty Dozen, Conan, Red Dawn, Short Circuit, The Thing, The Birds, Hellraiser, Poltergeist, Logan's Run, Child's Play, Flash Gordon, Rosemary's Baby, The Last Starfighter, Forbidden Planet, Barbarella, Red Sonja, My Fair Lady, and Highlander.

Sadly that isn't even a complete list. Granted some of those I might enjoy seeing remade, but some of those are classics that you just don't touch. Hollywood needs to hire some new writing talent or something.

Another thing about this I'd hate to see is that in the future, there may some confusion as to which version is being referred to in any conversation (since the classic and remake are practically the same in plot); that is to say, it could get annoying to always hear "Which one?" as a response to "Have you seen [insert movie title here]?" To me, remakes are often pointless since they may not become as memorable as the original films many years from now, because many of the originals are timeless and leave such an impression on us. Remakes don't always do that.

Yeah that's a good point, having to tell people which version you are talking about will be rather annoying. The other thing that I already see is people who are entirely unaware that the one they are watching is a remake at all, they think it is the original, and just because it has modern special effects and such they think it's so much better. I constantly have to point out that when the original was made those were the modern special effects and everyone thought they were great, and just wait a few years and the current remake will look just as dated as the original does to them now.
