I'm just sexual. I dont care if it's a guy or girl, but I am only romantically/emotionally attracted to other men. Do I need to be called gay for that? No. But I dont care either way.

Being in the group allows you to feel like your among friends. You can look at the members of the list and find other people in that group and meet others. It somewhat reflects what you represent. It's not really "picking sides", it's more like "Does it show 'ME'"

I suppose you could say that. Though, out of hundreds of gays here, there are bound to be a few in feud together.

Well, those who like the same sex, for example, only do that because it's a way to get back at all of those who harass/hurt them. Shouldn't define who they are, though. A person's a person after all.

I just recently got out and nothing changed around me .. except that people around me know lol I dont really ... like .... put myself in a group or w.e. .. I just live like i've always lived and never gunna change that .. x3

I see "gay" as a title to attach to more than a feeling. that its more of a thing to make a person feel like there are others like them... however there are many different levels and types of "gay" so it really comes to ones definition and oppinion of being gay...

personally I find the title more harmful than good. it is something many live in fear of because the society doesnt accept it because they don't understand it.

exactly, why join a title that people dont like? why not be yourself and just ignore it? whether you want to or not, people already put you in that category, so there's no point in becoming what they want you to be.

right; the thing with titles is they create stereotypes. if everyone is unique then why fall into a label?

Its just a word that people chose to use for people who like the same gender. So to me its pointless.

I think once people clearly defined the group 'homosexual'/'gay' it caused a bit of a backlash. It used to be men could have sex with other men without being 'gay'. The thing is from what I've learned 'gay' means a man sexually attracted to other men. And then say bisexual is a man sexually attracted to both men and women. But what if you're only sexually attracted to women, but still have sex with men? I think it's only value is as a self-assigned label.

I always say with bisexuality there's a border between Emotional Attraction and Sexual Attraction, usually one is sexually attracted to one gender and emotionally attracted to the other, but I think that a lot of people just 'settle' for whatever they can get and claim to be bisexual

labels are confusing at times. Personally I find gay to refer to someone who is attracted to the same gender, in either a sexual or romantic way, and bisexual means you are essentially attracted to all genders in a sexual and romantic way and it just all depends on the person you are attracted to. however there are varying degrees of bisexuality, some bisexuals like men a lot more than women or vice versa. and I see straight as the same as gay, the attraction to the opposite sex (romantic or sexual). however I do feel like sexuality is like a spectrum, there is a lot of in between, and thus labels are kind of obsolete, and may not efficiently define someone's attraction. For me I almost exclusively like men, as such I identify as being gay. not to say I don't like women I have a great deal of female friends however I am not attracted to them in anyway (romantic or sexual). now as far as why we use labels, there a few reasons i see. they are for convenience, if someone asks what you like then you don't have to go into some big detailed conversation about your sexuality, you can simply say I'm gay, straight, bi, etc. I also think it helps you identify with others of similar interests, if you find out someone else is a furry then you find out you have more in common, so labels also help people to find others with similar interests.

true, in those situtations, it's very convienient to have decriptive titles for yourself. but some peopel go out of their way to let people know they're gay, and that they do all the stereotypical things that gays are supposed to do, IE fashion, girly hand gestures, ect. people forget that gay means M/M, and has nothing to do with personality or appearence

Well, bisexuality is technically an attraction to two different things (such as men and women to men transgendered people, or m2f). People mix up bisexuality with pansexuality (which is true attraction to all forms of human sexuality).

I am guilty of calling myself bi, but it's only cause saying pan gets blank stares. I might change that though.

Still, I don't label myself too much, since a label is like the excerpt from a book you find on the back or the flap. Or a trailer for a film. It tells you a little about it, is generally misleading and when you get into the book (or film) it is entirely different than you expected.

I'm a little late to the part but I prefer to not give myself a label. To me a label keeps myself AWAY from others, so I try to not have one in any subject.

I am myself, I strive for myself, my sexuality is a part of the whole that makes up 'me' but I won't ever go out of my way to shove it in another person's face...if someone is a homophobe, I don't go 'OMG I HATE YOU' I just don't bring up the fact that I'm gay. I'm just like anyone else out there just with my own ideals and likes...so I like guys, that doesn't change my personality or how I will treat another.

I think the terms is just a group classification, one that, like you said, makes you feel like you're part of a subgroup, feel safer.
Going into the education field I gotta keep myself at a professional level and to be honest...I HATE it when people say I 'sound' gay...I strongly dislike being stereotyped and grouped like that, it's not that I'm not, it's just that I'm being placed with a group when really I'm just myself.

oh if people know I am, I won't lie, I have a blast with it and have fun with it. I have an upbeat personality and I love to have fun and make people laugh. I never bring up the topic about it or do that until they show that they're 'cool' with it. I'm all about keeping other comfortable...I mean...let's face it...who likes drama and strife?

My dad, for example, will never accept the fact that I'm gay and that this is the lifestyle I'm living, but he loves me as his son irregardless. So with him I just act like I normally do, minus all the sexual puns and stuff like that since I know it would make him uncomfortable. I never go out of my way or do anything that might bring discomfort, intentionally.

For me, I dont go out of my way to say gay sexual puns or anything, and I just act like Ive always acted, but since everyone I know is cool with my sexual orientation, it doesnt matter really. I can say to my dad "that guy is hot" and he'd say "eh, I guess. He's kind of out of shape though", but thats just because my dad might as well be gay

lol my dad was raised Menonite so he has very strict religious beliefs. And I didn't mean like I make sexual puns just if someone says something to me, or all these guys at my school are talking about how 'hot a chick is' I'll just say...'Don't look at me, I don't bang that, I couldn't tell you!' <.<;

I kind of feel bad for my dad though...out of three kids...one of them is gay (me) and another is a lesbian ^^; I'm just glad he's not going to shun us or anything of the sort, in that regard I'm very fortunate
