SAW (7) 3D (Some spoilers)

Alright so I just got back from seeing SAW 3D.
I must say I'm a little disappointed with the way they chose to "end" the series. Not because of the gore or anything like that but more with the story and plot. I can understand that Hoffman would be going a little off the handle after what happened in the end of SAW VI. I can also understand him disregarding JigSaw's rules in order to get revenge on Jill. However what I don't understand is why they changed him SO much from what I've seen in the past movies. Some of the flashbacks just made him seem like a horrible monster of a man. This was probably the thing that botherd me most about the film. He was nothing BUT a villain, that was it. I'm sure if your not really a Hoffman fan though this won't really bother you that much. I also must mention that, as I had been told, they barely focused on the Jill/Hoffman faceoff which is what I was most excited for.
The next thing that bothered me was that they really didn't do anything to push the story forward. Towards the end some things concerning what happened to Dr. Gordon were brought to light but most of the movie just centers around characters that I honestly had no feelings for. I literally didn't care about what happened to them.
While I didn't hate EVERYTHING about the movie the things I was looking forward to the most seemed to fall short. I guess in a lot of ways I just hate that they're, supposedly, ending it all with a movie like this one. I guess there is always a chance that they'll make another one and if they do I can only hope they put more time and effort into the plot and characters.

FA+

Though Costas has said that if we all turn up and support the movie, there is a chance of them doing another, if they make enough money on it. But, y'know, thats Costas talking so take it with a pinch of salt!
But yeah, they screwed up Hoffman's character royally. In a way, I kinda pretend this movie didn't exist :/
Hoffman in this movie made me sad. I don't know what they were thinking when they chose to make him some sort of low down dirty cop. I'm with you on pretending ti didn't happen. >8T What would you say upset you the most about Hoffman in this movie?
You seemed, in previous movies, to get the impression he was killing because he had to, whereas in this movie you're led to believe he kills because he just WANTS to. And that doesn't stack up, for me.
Im willing to get along with the idea that he's gone a little mad, because you probably would in his situation, but you don't go from a cop for 20 years to a psychopath with no emotions. Besides which, he clearly knew what he was doing.
I had some faith that they'd actually explore more of his character, like what happened to his family, what happened with his sister, and show his more human side. After all, they did it with John, and showed all his past emotional ups and downs, to the point where people LIKE John, despite the fact that he was a murderer, because they made him human.
I wanted them to do it with Hoffman too, but they just seemed to take the easiest option, which was just making him a freddie or Jason style villain.
I just keep thinking back to the scene in 5 when he's in the chair and Jigsaw blackmails him, and the scene where he and Jigsaw first kidnap Paul together and you see tears from Hoffman afterwards and Jigsaw has to tell him never to let it be personal.
Thats just........not the same character we see in 7.
Of course he's still hot as hell, but I was hoping for a bit more than eye candy :/
Im glad he's kinda still about, but honestly, a part of me wished they'd just shot him rather than done what they done. I hate the idea of him being stuck there :( I don't think I'll ever feel at ease until I know he either got out, or he died quickly.
I have to say, I hated Jill, always have. After 6, I just wanted her dead, in as painful a way as possible. I was happy she got what she deserved. I guess I kinda stupidly thought Hoffman would ride off into the sunset and start a new life, I was upset to say the least when that didn't happen.
I will say I was upset with how they went about it. Attacking and drugging him and then leaving him in a room to die slowly just didn't sit well with me. After all he had been through with Jigsaw I find myself liking Jiggy a little less. After all he went against his own rules in a way by leaving Hoffman in a trap he had no way of getting out of. What happened to everyone deserves a chance? Even then Hoffman did what he had to to survive, he was in many ways everything Jigsaw preached about. Or at least it seems that way to me.
Even the second he woke up in that room, he went straight for the saw, clearly prepared to do whatever it took, and that chance was taken from him.
You're right in that he was exactly what Jigsaw preached about, and one of the few in the entire franchise who really did deserve to live.
I used to be Jigsaw mad, obsessed with him. Until Hoffman came along. I actually didn't much like Hoffman until the 6th movie when something clicked and I went back and rewatched all the others with a fresh outlook. Love him now, far more than Jigsaw.
Like you, I dislike Jigsaw a bit now.
Im trying to look at the movie through the eyes of someone who isn't obsessed with Hoffman and see if it still bothers me quite as much, and I don't think it would. Its weird, because I loved Strahm too, but for some reason his death in 5 never bothered me half as much as what happened to Hoffman.
It was the same way for me really. I was so blinded by how much I loved Jigsaw until six. Five did make me stop and think for a moment when he blackmailed him because it seemed out of character but when he did what he did to Hoffman in six my respect for him seriously dwindled. I liked Strahm as well but like you when it all happened to Hoffman I was way for upset. I can see how if your one of the people who love Jigsaw or Amanda or maybe even Jill what happened to Hoffman wouldn't bother you half as much. Speaking of Amanda I don't much care for her either.
