For anyone on the fence about Megamind

...I just got back from watching it, and I thought it was excellent. :3 I would recommend going to see it. It's much better than the promotional material would have you believe.
Mostly I'm pleased as punch that DreamWorks is starting to really step up their game, whereas at most points over the last decade, they've been pretty inconsistent in terms of the quality of their films.
I think the fact that we're seeing higher quality work in general from a number of animation studios is a sign of good things to come. I'm not saying that we're entering another cartoon Renaissance or anything, but things are definitely looking up. Despicable Me's success is particularly telling, I would say. Who would've expected a studio's first film to be such a hit?
Granted, not everything lined up is looking quite so stellar. I was underwhelmed by the new trailer for Tangled (I want to like it, really I do, but my hopes aren't high), and bemused by a teaser for a second Kung Fu Panda movie (not that I didn't like the first one). And there was a very bizarre and altogether unappealing trailer for a movie entitled Gnomeo and Juliet. The concept might have been quirky rather than stupid in different hands, but what I saw in the trailer -- mostly unfunny site gags -- doesn't seem promising. Oh well. Gonna go look it up on IMDB anyways. *le sigh*
