I agree, I really don't get it when people get offended or annoyed by other people thanking them for watching or faving! O.o

With how slow FA can sometimes be, looking to see a message that's practically identical to the ones directly below it can sometimes be a waste of time. :>

Also, shouts don't support direct replies like comments left on journals/images.

A marginal inconvenience that stacks up as a problem over time for some people I suppose.

I can't say that I've run into that problem... but I can see how it would easily get on ones nerves.

a watch = a thank for me, its just the good thing to do and makes ppl happy. awe well, I watch ppl and more often I dont het a thank, it happens :

To thoes who have a problem with people tanking them.. i have one piece of advice..

Cry About it and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.. cause it was just polished =:P


i havnt had this problem as of yet.. and hopefully never.. but well.. people shouldnt get pissy for people thanking them on their shout list..

cause if you want messages.. Thats what the "Send Note" button is used for dammit..

*shrugs* I personally don't thank people who watch me...I personally view posting a "Thanks for the watch!" comment on a userpage as a silly form of advertising for the artist who got watched, like saying "HAY LOOK THIS PERSON +WATCHED ME!!!1eleventyone!" I would never want people to think I'm fishing for more watchers or pageviews, so if I feel the need to thank people (which, for a +watch, I rarely do) I do so in a private message or email. Besides, that way it's a bit more...personal, and feels more right and sincere.

BUT...I don't condone or approve of people being snarky to people who thank them for the watch. That...is just childish and stupid. :P

That's actually a good idea using the private messages for the thank you comments, I'll have to start doing that instead.

While I don't leave thank yous to call attention to myself, I can see why these people get annoyed when other people do that. Although you're right, it's no reason to become snarky.

Especially here on FA, where shouts can be deleted. :P There's absolutely no reason to snark at ALL, and indeed anyone who snarks instead of just deleting shouts they don't like is, technically, a twit. XD

Some find it endearing, others find it to be a form of annoyance. It's something you'll have to try to assuage & accept.

*shrugs* I always thank for watches. Have since the beginning and don't see a reason to stop now. From my POV, it's gratitude, not advertising, though I can see how it might be viewed that way. Heck, I've found a few people to add to *my* watch list from those who've thanked other people for watching them, but it seemed more like connecting than browsing advertisements. Using private messages isn't a bad idea at all, though.

I don't do it all the time, often I will say thanks for a fav/comment/watch etc. if I think the person is interesting and want to maybe try and start a conversation. But most of the time, when I have the time I'll thank people, especially for comments, since they took the time to give me a comment or critique the least I can do is take the same amount of time to say thank you.

I guess some people think it's obnoxious if they're only saying thanks to get more views or attention to themselves from people who visit the page in which they left the comment... but since you can't really tell who is doing it or for what reason, I just would rather think of them all as meaning it sincerely in a positive way. :)

I haven't run into this problem, and hopefully you aren't either. You're a nice guy. I guess every community has its a-holes.

I have not run into that problem & I hope I dont either. :P I can never understand why people get angery when you say thanks for watching me or something. There just trying to be thankful & greatful for it as am I to. :)

They must be on dialup and 100+ thanks for the fave and watches must get to them. LOL Ya got to remember this is a strange fandom to begin with. I can't help but be polite and thank thoses who fave and watch its my nature.

I always thank for watches. o.O I dont see it as advertising or anything of the such. Hell, its like someone opening the door for you when they see you have something heavy in your hands, do you just go through the open door and dont give a thank you? If anything I think its really nice if the watched person takes time out of their day to go to whoever watched them and at least leave a "Thanks for the watch!" message. I think it is just a 'little' insensitive to not do so. If they didnt want to deal with comments from people, even little thank you messages on their front page, then why even bother posting up artwork to begin with if you didnt want to deal with people ingeneral?

I might be going a bit too into it I suppose, but people shouldnt get snooty because someone thanks them for the watch. (Like my earler example, you walk through the door, say thank you, and the person sticks their nose up in the air and goes 'Omg. I wasnt holding the door for you)

Personally I think it'd be harder to go through a bunch of thank-you PMs when they could just be posted on your front page, where you load them every once in awhile, and not have to spend alot more time going through and cleaning out your PM box. If anything I think that might get on people's nerves more in the end.

If anything it lets the watcher know that the watchee did see that they were watched, and appriciated it. Least that is how I figured it worked! Heh.

i for one appreciate every thank you message that comes up in my user page, every single one makes me smile and im more then happy to look over their gallery, leave a few comments and a thank you,

people enjoying my art is the whole reason i draw, so i love knowing they are enjoying my stuff and like to at least say thank you.

People who have manners are a dying breed. Somehow it's become "uncool" to be polite. And, of course, the internet is by FAR the worst offender, since everybody has that shield of anonymity to protect them, an asshole license if you will. If it wouldn't get me arrested, I'd start carrying my pistol around on my belt, and see if that improved things any. After all, an armed society is a polite society!

Getting offended because someone is grateful to you is stupid. I think that kind of people uses any excuse to get angry, so if you didn't thank they would call you a ungrateful selfish or anything like that. The best thing to do is ignore them.

It seems that most online art communities have their major share of members who seem to have been dragged up rather than brought up (the latter occaisionally have manners).
I don't personally reply to every comment/fave or watch, i do sometimes (if i'm not in a rush) thank these people, but usually i return the favour by faving/commenting on some of their own work, or watching them back.
