It fits. Considering that the goal of evolution is getting animals to reproduce, it would make sense to have such parts noticeably coloured. Still, most animals don't have such coloration, it's puzzling. Full rainbow of vibrant colors would be similarly effective since the only thing that matters is standing out of rest of the body... and variety makes things interesting.
