The Thought Police

I'm always upset at restrictions on freedom of speech and the policing of ideas.
I'm not saying I'm for cub art. I'm going to say right now that I am not a pedophile.
However, what I AM going to say is that I believe that originally-created pictures, as well as text, are the distillation of ideas. Any given piece of art is the artist's attempt to create something on a page that encapsulates an idea.
Whether or not you agree with that idea is really up to you. For all the socio/economic/political weight you may assign to an idea, it is a thought put to page. And it's probably the American upbringing, but the idea of someone telling me that I'm not allowed to have an idea, to express and share that idea, is horrendous.
This bizarre crackdown on various sites against fictional depictions reminds me of the Comics Code. Basically, "If you don't conform to our ideas of what you should be like, you're fucked." And the response is the same, "We'll police ourselves so that the idiots making the laws don't step in to enforce them as well."
I agree with the actions FA is taking. Conform or die. And in this case, survival seems the optimal route. This is, however, a concession to the moral majority, and I worry about a (not-so) distant future when the sponsors have a problem with furry porn in general. I worry that this is a step down a deviously slippery slope.
However, to the smug jackasses folding their arms, saying "I'm happy to see those undesirables go," I say "Fuck You." Because here come the ineffable "They" coming first for the cub porn artists. I wonder how many of you will still be smug when they come for the guro? When the pregnant porn, transformation, and bondage porn are dropped, how many of you will still stand, noses turned up, saying "Tut-tut"?

Then they came for the jews, and I did not speak because I was not a jew.
Third they came for the blacks, and I did not speak because I was not black.
When they came for me, there was no one left to speak for me.

Let's face it, a little community service isn't going to hurt anyone...
Videogames connection to violence has at least been studied (questionably) and debate among the scientific community rages even now as to whether it does or doesn't.
Trying to link the two doesn't quite work though... as there is an actual sexual desire associtated with fetishes, something beyond a little cathartic pretend violence in my opinion.
In addition, you could argue that those that enjoy these things to an extreme degree are allready predisposed to such behavior patterns, see also: gun nuts that play the hell out of halo.
And yeah, you can't help but wonder if this is a sign of things to come.
Which is probably a different fetish all together.
"The sick fetish I hate is banned! OH JOYOUS DAY!"
*time passes*
"The sick fetish I love is banned! HOW DARE YOU TRAMPLE MY FREE SPEECH!"
Also, an edit function would be nice.
These are free sites that depend on these payment processors. Sadly what they say goes because they have to follow the laws of the country they're based in. FA & IB may be American sites, but the payment processor they're using is based in Canada and have restrictions on these kinds of things. The only way around it is to accept the official label as a porn site in order to get approved for the adult rated accepting credit card processors and to establish premium membership accounts to access the adult material.
