Estoy agradecido por / I am thankful for... (NBPM pt.25)
Eating turkey with Sema's family was pretty fun, especially when they started making fun of Uncle Paul's driving habits. The cranberries were delicious too. Black olive and pickles mmmmm. Cheesecake and pumpkin pies! Could have gone for some ice cream. Good news! I have "Death by Chocolate" at home in the freezer...
I really didn't eat a whole lot since I had been munching for a long time. Chips 'n salsa. Sema makes a kickass pico salsa. Just sayin'. I'm kind of a grazer. I like to eat slowly over a long span of time, preferrably while doing something else. And no, that doesn't include watching football.
As far as gratitude, I thought about it for a while, and a certain word popped into my mind: "poder". It's a Spanish verb that often translates to "to be able" or "can", but I was thinking of its use as a noun, which means "power, might, ability".
I am grateful to be able to do all of the things I have done this last year. I have travelled across the country to three conventions, seen the Pacific Ocean for the first time, bought a newly built house even though I have zero credit history. I have zero debt (besides a mortgage), a Master's Degree in Computer Science, a pretty darn good relationship with Sema, a mostly healthy body (it's getting better), and ambition to spare. Yo tengo el poder hacer casi todo si quiero, y estoy agradecido por eso. I can do just about anything I put my mind to, and I'm grateful for that.
I'm not trying to gloat, but I am counting some of my blessings. I'm by no means perfect, and lord-knows I have my own share of issues. Others might excel where I fail, and they should be grateful for that. But I'm glad that I have what I have, and I can do what I can do.
Oh, and football is overrated.
