I wish that would work - unfortunately, there's no way to order the uncut german version over steam because "the German version of the game that Steam provides is a low violence edit" according to several forum posts :(

Haven't tried it out yet, but according to a lot of people on the net, it's still the cut german version because they can somehow detect that you're sitting somewhere in germany :/

Hmm I bet if you could get the uncut GCF files from someone who already has the uncut version and overwrite your thing with it it might just work but I can't guarantee it as it might also detect that it's the wrong one and overwrite it again... then you'll have to wait for a *free* version ..' or some :/

If you're going to eurofurence (and if not, why not?!) there are plenty of foreigners who might be able to hand over a copy of the full game if you give them the money. (Alternatively you might know someone who's going, and the they could act as a relay.) I would if it's available in the UK. (Don't know if it is.) Be quick though. You've only got about a week to organize such things.

Or just bribe a friend in the US (or wherever) with a commission if they'll buy the game and ship it over.

Das Spiel lohnt auf alle Fälle. Ich habs für die xbox 360 und schon lange nicht mehr so viel gespielt wie jetzt. Das Spiel hat zwar die eine oder andere Macke, aber das stört auch nicht weiter. Definitiv der Knaller des Jahres.

Die nächsten großen Games dürften dann Crysis und Timeshift werden. Hab beide gestern auf der GC angetestet. Machen einen sehr guten Eindruck.

You could try importing another version. I hear that Gears of War was the best-selling game of all time in Poland(think it was Poland)--because of all the German players importing it.
Not sure if they had to do anything fancy to get around customs though.

yeah, most of the people here who are interested in the uncut version usually get it from either austria or poland. Might be a good thing to keep in mind once the PC version of Gears of War is released - because that one is definitely going to be indexed here ><

I don't know about many other countries, but I know that Australia has banned several video games outright as well. I have heard that Germany is a leader in censorship legislation though :(

yeah, it's highly annoying, really -_- and there are many of those conservative politicians around here who would like to censor pretty much any type of videogame that contains even the slightest amount of violence

to some degree, the politicians are right, in my opinion. Games which contain an outrageous amount of violence should get indexed, might be ok in some cases

yep, that's what I mean, it's complete nonsense. I wouldn't really mind if they made an additional version version with slightly less violence, whereas the uncut one will only be sold to people over 18 or 21

We (meaning Germany) have or at least had the doubtful of an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the country with the strictest software censorship. It used to be MUCH worse. A few years ago blood in videogames had to be green (as it was in the German version of Syphon Filter) and characters that were likely to be killed by the player had to be as unlike to humans as possible (nice examples: the German version of Half Life, where the human soldiers where turned into robots or the Command & Conquer and Red Alert series, where all soldiers where androids).

So, it has gotten a lot better in recent years.

Man, that sucks. I hear Austrialia has the same friggin' problem. I understood the green blood and the cartoony stuff a decade or so ago when video games were just starting to become the medium they are now... they had to tread carefully at first, but we've grown past that shit.
I'm sure _someone_ would be willing to sell you an American copy. I know that it's a pain to order shit over the internet and shipping sucks... maybe wait for the game to become cheaper over here?
I can't stand this bullshit. We, in any country, have elected officials to take care of crap like making sure we have roads and that schools function and crap like that. Where the fuck do they get the idea that we want them to tell us what we can and can't play or watch or read. Where the hell do they get off? We pay their goddamn salaries, we should be able to do something. Are there really that many people who are dumb enough that they want to make sure that the frigging government is "protecting" other people's children from maybe possibly seeing part of a game that has some violence in it? What the hell?

This is the same shit that is happening to Man Hunt 2, even in the States. There will be no uncut, uncensored version, because the only version they will release is a censored one. It sucks because I -really- want to play that game, and I want to play the damn game the way that the creators intended. I'm 22, old enough to know whether blood, sex or violence is going to harm me, let me make my own damn decisions!

Also, I live Australia, which also uses the PAL system. Perhaps I could buy the game here and ship it to you? Do you think an Australian game would work on a German system? I'd definately be willing do this - no one should miss out on a complete Bioshock experience.
