My future's determined by thieves, thugs, and vermin
18 years ago
I drew gift art for the Office For The Protection Of The Constitution, after I had been studying the blatant propaganda poster in their booth. This poster tried to "convince" its viewer with emotional imagery rather than reason. It was sort of arranged as a tetraptych. And had four photos, each with a caption of white font on black ground.
The far left photo was the WTC smoking like incense sticks. It had the caption: "Ist das Völkerverständigung?" [ "Is this understanding among nations?" ]
Now, to understand what the Office might be hinting at with each photo, it is required to read their brochures, and so I can say, that apparently this photo was to represent the Office's field of work against Foreign extremism.
The next photo was a blurred photograph of someone's face starting to get smooshed by the type of combat boots worn by Neonazis. The blurring of the entire image except for a few selected elements could give away the impression, that this photo might as well have been a reenactment of right-wing brutality produced for this occasion. I don't remember the caption for that image right now, but the caption fitted with the motif of the rest of the suggestive photos of the tatraptych. Probably something about tolerance.
This photo was also probably there to represent the Office's fight against extremists. In this case the right-wing extremists
The third photo was the photo of a cloaked rock thrower, whether it was original footage or posed as the previous combat boot picture, I can't tell, but they laid off of the obvious shopping effects but there was no context given, just this cloaked person with a brick in one hand.
The caption: "Sieht so Meinungsfreiheit aus?" [ "Does this look like Freedom of Speech to you?" ]
You guessed it. It's about the Office's fight against left-wing extremism
The last, and far right photo depicted a half-opened safe which has a light in it like fridges do, and carries a folder of documents and redundantly has a post-it note on it with the word "geheim" [ "secret" ] written on it in big, bold red letters.
The caption: "Soll das Geheimnisschutz sein?" [ "Do you call this protection of secrets?" ]
That's right, the Office is also trying to do the job of preventing business espionage, and it's also trying to prevent foreign intelligence agencies (explicitly mentioned in the brochures: Iran and Syria) from gathering intelligence on regime critics. The ambiguity of the German language in the Office's brochures however makes it a little uncertain whether they refer to German regime critics or Syrian/Iranian regime critics there.
The photos in combination with the captions were off-putting enough, and I decided to lead this tetraptych to absurdity because I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being bullshitted with crude propaganda despite the reasonable intent to raise our awareness.
Therefore, I sketched a banana and wrote the caption "Ist das ein Apfel?" [ "Is this an apple?" ] and folded the paper in a way to make it stand a little and placed it in front of the tetraptych. I didn't stay around for any ensuing lulz because I've already had my fill of bullshit for the day by listening to superficial hymns for the State, and the speeches of the Thieves, Thugs, and Vermin. If I understood some of the bullshit correctly, there are intentions to detach our State from Germany and join the Belgium-Netherlands-Luxembourg axis instead. I certainly wouldn't object to that. At least the Dutch were smart enough to object the current version of a European constitution which would make the pursuing of the inhuman Reaganist / neo-liberal policies compelling for all EU nations.
