Art Questionnaire.

1. What are elements of your style?
I was actually wondering if people had comments here. I've been told my style is quite recognizeable and I get "hey, you're that Class Menagerie guy" quite often still, even though I thought I'd altered my style a lot since then o.0 I know my pencils (and inks to a lesser extent) tend to be kinda sketchy and scribbly. I favor relatively broad, short body proportions, with long torsos and short legs (probably comes from being AZN), and often with bulky snouts on the faces. Obviously I'm known for creative panel layouting.... I also like multi-character group shots, but I don't do well with backgrounds.
Dunno, what makes me recognizeable? At times I've considered drawing...special art under an alternate handle, but I've been told my style is too distinctive for that.
2. Have you had formal training? (e.g., college, personal instructor, etc.)
I took a couple classes here and there...that's about it.
3. Was it useful or did you find it better to learn on your own?
They were good for teaching things like materials techniques, or technical things like perspective and lighting. Most of the anatomy stuff, though, is self-taught. Naturally hardly anybody has actual classes on comics or cartooning. One thing I always like to tell new artists is drawing fanart is a great way to learn, since you're working with characters designed by people who know what they're doing; the trick is to interpret, not just trace. So I kinda reached the weird conclusion that basically Rule 34 is a great learning tool. XD
4. What are your tools of the trade?
Plain Dixon Ticonderoga #2's, plus Micron Pigmas and varying black-fill markers, usually on bristol or comic board.
Colors are usually with Primsacolor markers.
I've got a Bamboo tablet that I'm trying to learn.
5. Would you, or do you work on art for a living?
I don't. I think I'd like to, but I'm not sure. I know a number of people who do, and their personal art output drops when they're working full time. It might kill all my other creativity. Kinda moot since it won't happen, though.
6. Do you know another artist who would fill this out?
Well,
emorottie and
artdecade already have, so.... oh wait, was that not what you were asking?

FA+

Now the only evolution i expect is a sweaty erotic furry doujin from youGirls have always been based on anime proportions, the first good refs I had. So yeah, compact and curvy.
But even when I don't do panels people know me!
Riiiight ;-p
Actually, it's the other way around for me. I knew your style first, then only moved on to class managerie, which i found out from.. somewhere out of somewhere, i forgot. Your style is different, a little, from other artist. It's sketchy looking, yes but it's quite original.
Huh, that IS a new one o.0
I wonder how it evolved the way it did o.0 Most of my influences are common to many folks in my age group, not sure how I evolved the way I did.
There really isn't any way you could do it under an alias, I'm pretty sure everyone would know it's you. Your style is very one of a kind, and thats pretty awesome when you think about it.
I...suppose. I dunno, I guess I grew up hoping to make a living off my art, and if I'd want to be an animator, initially the low-end animation jobs mean you ape someone *else's* style, not be unique. But thanks
I can't say I've seen you ever even try to imitate someone elses style. I don't know how well you'd pull it off or not.
I do know that your style is distinct, and considering what you're doing now (workin' around the fandom, making comics and some comissions), it's definately a good thing to stand out. :]
The focus is on characters of yours that show up on, like, 2 pages, yet they're easily recognizable as your drawings.
I think another thing is that you tend to use the same few mediums, so your pieces are often held together by that as well. Other than that, I have no idea. >.>
I have no idea what "special art" you speak of, but I wholeheartedly support whatever strange endeavor this is. 0=)
I was kind of thinking digital art might be the way to try new styles, but so far it's not any different =X
I'd say you'll see, but the whole point would be that you wouldn't know it was me, so... XD So Iunno. :::shrug:::
It amuses me how many people focused on the "special art" comment. Your only option for doing it without getting the reputation would be to limit the audience to people who wouldn't spread it around.
I suppose I should try the side-by-side uploads. Even I have never really made direct comparisons.
Yeah, cuz this fandom is known for not spreading rumors XD
