(Old news, not many people watching me, few people watching me read these, and probably nobody watching me and reading these cares, but w/e. I feel I should try and be more active here anyway.)
Akira Yamaoka is no longer composing the music for Silent Hill.
It's been going a bit downhill ever since the original team stopped making new games (though Shattered Memories was awesome), but now Silent Hill is officially dead.

I heard that the Dexter composer was working on it. I've heard good things about the show, but never really been interested. To me, it's not that Silent Hill 8 couldn't possible be good... it's more that if it's good, it's going to be good in a different way. I simply have no hope that it's going to capture the tone of a Silent Hill game without Yamaoka or the original team.
The Homecoming thing really sucked, especially since I'm one of the few people who really liked Silent Hill 4... it seems lots of other people thought the series died with that game, so Homecoming was just another letdown, but The Room one of my favorites.
Shattered Memories, in my opinion, is absolutely the least scary one in every way, however, once you accept that, it actually is very good. The ending is, quite honestly, nothing earth-shattering in its reveal, but it has a very unique approach to that particular method of storytelling. I would recommend beating it at least once.
And yes, Silent Hill 1 and 2 could be really good remakes. Although I'd be wary of a remake of Silent Hill 2... if it's just shiny new graphics and controls, maybe even a little extended gameplay, awesome. If we're talking about script rewrites and getting new voice actors, I don't want to hear about it. xD
