External Hard drives are reptile killers

I recently bought i Simpletech (piniferera designed) 500 GB hard drive. As soon as i connected it the thing broke, it wouldn't communicate with my computer... so i go and return it and bring a new one home, thank god it worked and was working quite well, until last night when it just decided to stop communicating.
Now it sits at my feet, making a buzzing noise and being nothing more than an expensive paperweight...

I would try to buy a case for it and then connect through usb port...
You have to take care to buy the right case, thought

but personally i prefer 'DISKGO'
