Just a thought..
It now looks like some of the FA mods wish to delete essentially all sonic pr0n and other known toons, more specifically any character that has ever been portrayed as young, regardless of obvious aging up in the artists work.
But my thoughts on some "people" behaving like huge pieces of nazi shit over this isn't the point of this journal.
This site is quickly going down the full corporate censorship toilet and fast.
I'll emphasize again my concern is full censorship and the dishonesty about the "cub" ban (ie actually opinions against anything cute or not overdeveloped) that is ONE mere step away from full porn ban like DA / Sheezy, etc.
Because I'll say again - their excuse that they cant get/keep payment services because of cub art is a load of shit, fur porn in general is no different and of the same taboo - its porn and semi-bestiality as far as worthless asshole prudes are concerned, their asses would still get dropped even if they thought the excuse is true. (which would be sadder, true Alaskan Governor grade reasoning there..)
Which brings me to this, let FA die in its literal retardation, or do an old fashioned hostile takeover.
Really, even if a small part of the artists and watchers here put their money together they could buy the site and vote in new administrators, and since FA is fucked anyway they can't really refuse even if they say they will.
As in just plain buy FurAffinity.
...
But that supposes more than a few people could accomplish anything, also supposes they don't do something stupid and let an untrustworthy or plain stupid person handle the money (group would need experienced web programmers and accountants, and so on).
And start by forming smaller groups that find who they need then merging with others.
And well.. except for a few, my experience with people in general has nothing but disappointed me.
Hateful, paranoid, gullible, sadistic, manipulative, greedy, shortsighted, stupid, liars.. such destructive behavior treated as "normal".. and the few people that are good just give up, thats all they ever do.
P.S.
I'm NOT saying I'd like to have anything to do with running FA ( no time, outgrowing it), I've pretty much given up on it and am awaiting to see if anyone actually does something useful about it.
You really think FA wont get banned from another payment service just for regular fur porn? Really? XD

FA+

I trust my jaded anticipation, it's very rarely been wrong. =/
Because they might have to drop this, and also people shouldn't just roll over.
If it's time then people should just censor and crosslink their art and new art, and make every opportunity to mock this whole thing.
Where did you hear that? I mean, it's the inevitable next step, but I wasn't expecting it right away...
Cripes, it may be time for me to abandon ship after all. Might as well go to a non-furry site at this rate, and just post my clean work. I was going to do that eventually, anyway, I'm just sad about being muscled into it early...
I'd rather not name names.. since I got some issues with not letting go of things.. obsessive retribution, etc >_>
Its best I step back and let idiots destroy each other.
Don't bother deleting anything, just censor anything that's questionable, this thing could just blow over.
Remember, the site is privately owned by an individual. That does not mean it is for sale, even at any price.
If money were the motivation for running this site, we'd surely have all paid a registration fee by now, and it would probably have to be renewed each year. Instead, we are getting free access to a private server with what I believe houses the largest collection of furry art available anywhere. Even without the cub porn, or even without any porn, this would still be the largest collection of free furry art I'm aware of. That has value to me.
Sure, I love some of the porn too, but do people really think that is all there is of value here? If so, they are missing out on the 70 percent of potentially cute art that is not porn. I'd rather not see anything banned. Under the circumstances though, I don't think they had much of a choice. The long term survival of the site depends on having a reliable source of income for the operating costs. I'm guessing it would be in the area of $2,000 a month.
When several funding services either drop them or deny them, citing the sane reason more than once, then FA either dies for a lack of funding, or they fix the problem. It just so happens that the cub porn was the most common reason given for being denied service. I love cub stuff, but when faced with a choice of losing all of FA, or just losing pat of the content, I think they made the right choice. Maybe they might still have trouble with finding a funding service. Maybe they might have to eventually ban other porn. They'll resist it though, just as they resisted the banning of cub porn for so many years. Ultimately though, the continued survival of the site is worth far more than the porn, which is only a part of the site.
I know a lot of people don't agree with this, but if the only thing that is important here is the porn, then they are overlooking over half of the site, and all the wonderful cub art that isn't porn.
And you assumed they wouldn't sell it when they can no longer afford to run it, if dozens of artists and many random users put some money together, that can be around $10k right there.
I think you'd have to come up with a whole lot more than $10,000 to buy FA. That much money barely covers the cost of the physical servers and a month of operational costs. Sure, maybe if someone came up with ten times that amount, it might start to be tempting. It is also equally possible that they might not sell for any amount of money. Don't forget that even if someone came up with the money to do the hostile takeover that you suggest, they'd also be faced with the same problem of finding ways to come up with reliable and continued funding. Easier said than done. It would not be a one time cost. If you have never administered a large server for public use, you might be surprised at the ongoing costs involved.
If anyone has a large enough sum of money to possibly buy FA, they'd be better off buying their own equipment and starting a totally new service. Anyone is free to do that. They can even call it CubAffinity if they like. Sure, it could work and become very popular, if there was a reliable and continuous source of funding. At the same time, FA would still remain as popular as it is now.
"oh no, why bother"
"we cant do anything about it"
"oh they wont listen, why bother protesting"
"oh the cellular Co is going rip me off, might as well put up with it"
"oh, might as well not vote since the new guys are only slightly less crooked"
"I could just not go by plane, but might as well get raped by the inspectors then keep any dignity"
"oh, martial law instated, oh well might as well surrender, they wont kill civilians for fun or anything"
"politicians holding the lives of millions of people as pawns for tax cuts for the wealthy, oh well, might as well give in, they're keep their word"
Nothing gets done until somebody tries, and people wont start if all they do is worry.
Imaging how things would be if people long ago thought it would be too hard to collect logs and stones to invent houses.
[b]"There is no ban on fanart. It's NEVER even been discussed. Stop listening to people who are easily panicked."[/q]
So no, I'm not trying to do anything or to fix anything, if I don't see that it is broken in the fist place. I'm not worrying, because the rumors about banning Sonic art and fan art simply are not true. I do see one problem here, and that is the furs who so blindly panic over rumors without checking their validity. A good start would be for people who have these worries to start watching Dragoneer. Since he is the owner of the site, it would provide first-hand knowledge of when he decides to change something. He answers questions when asked, so there really is no excuse for anyone to jump on the rumor bandwagon.
Most of your points are very good - for when something is wrong. I can assure you that I would fight if I saw crooked charges on my phone bill. I vote, to hopefully make a difference. I try to fix things, when I see something that I feel needs fixed. I protest when I feel that is the pope means for achieving a goal. Currently, I'm defending FA, because I don't see that they had much of a choice on their cub porn ban. I think it is far more effective to try to exercise changes in other areas instead. Changing the way most of society thinks about cub stuff is not easy, but arguing for it on FA, where the owners already don't have a moral problem with it is pointless. It's just preaching to the choir. If you want cub porn back, you have to change the minds of people who don't like it, rather than fighting with FA over it. They've stated many times that they have no moral issues over it, and I believe them. Financial reasons can't always be avoided though. Perhaps you have sufficient funds to sustain FA if they bring cub porn back? I know that I don't. I've only been able to donate a fraction of what they'd need. If 1000 cubfurs donated $2 a month, and promised to keep doing so, I'm sure that FA could stop thinking about their operating costs, and cub porn would never have been banned. Unfortunately. most furs feel that they are entitled to everything they want for free, so you never see more than a handful who would make an effort to help. They'd rather whine and complain, and threaten to leave. Well guess what, since the whiners aren't the ones contributing to the cost, they are only hurting themselves by leaving. I gladly enjoy the small percentage of bandwidth they free up as they move to other sites. Honestly, people whine to the wrong people. They don't make any effort to actually help. They complain when they don't get their way. They thrive on false rumors. Some even seek revenge for losing something that they never really fought for. I have no problems letting those individual self destruct, leave or otherwise dwell on problems. I like this site. I think the admins do a darned good job, considering that they are only human.
