I had totally forgotten about Sonic 4. Sounds like a shame.
I played Sonic 3D on Genesis and it wasn't awful; I would rate it a B+.
Once I got used to the controls, I also liked Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. However, I found the Chao garden sub-game tedious, and downloading a Chao to the VMU was useless because the VMU wears out its batteries in less than a day.
