And besides... it goes in cycles... at one time XBox was down for the count when PS2 came on the market.

Well the move was destined to fail from the start. It's just shamelessly ripping off the Wii, which most people stopped caring about a year ago. I'm not fond of the Kinect, but at least it's trying something new, so I'm not surprised it's doing better than the Move. And now that Microsoft has updated their system it's now as nice as the PS3 on a gaming level, and is only lacking the Blueray on a technical level. So this news comes as no surprise. On the upside for Nintendo they still own the handheld market, especially with the 3DS coming down the pipeline.

And yet, I will stay with the Wii/Nintendo. XD

Don't get me wrong, I play my cousen's 360, but as it is, I just keep coming back to games that... feel fun... I really don't know how to describe it.

nope the PS3 was done by Sony Japan developed under the wing of Kutaragi and later Hirai. but sony nintendo and even microsoft are world wide brands now

I've always been a Wii fan. And always will be. The fact that motion gaming has come to the big two "Warring Consoles" is just proof they recognize something in the Wii that is lacking in their systems. Mostly, that they appeal to overwight, greasy-headed pasty males in the dark who check the interblag every five seconds for the next leaked screenshot of the next big game which is either indistinguishable from the last, or a cloned sequel thereof. And they ought to be appealing to families with children who have disposable incomes.

But as bellow, the sales have equalized (no chart can go up forever, there will always come a point of market saturation when everyone has one, no more can possibly be made, or a there is a combination of the two) and XBox is the next horse in that race. And they'll reach that point as well. I wonder, idly, if the chart of all three would somehow resemble a sine/cosine wave imposed on each other.

Eh, I'd disagree that the Wii is irrelevant now that the Kinect is here. It's a really, really different sort of system, a different kind of game, and a totally different way to play them compared to Kinect. And the games that are out for Wii are unique -- there's really nothing like that on 360/PS3.

the wii is completely irrelevant. its using 20 year old technology for motion detection, it doesnt have high def support, its gaming library, besides zelda and mario, is a childish joke, and the damn thing cant even play dvds or even hold that much space.

Given that Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort continue to be some of the bestselling games of all time, and Wii Fit is still massively successful, I'd say it still has quite an audience, even though it's clearly showing its age. Irrelevant to you, clearly, yes, but not to everyone, that's for sure.

its sales have been declining monthly while the 360s has been rising.

it may have an audience but its clearly shinking. appaently people dont find games like barbies great adventure that fun.

is this suprising? no. whats suprising is that it took people 5 years to figure out how weak the wii truely is as an enterteinment system.

NPD its not the only researcher, and neither the best when comes to videogame industry. however usually they focus on the US market most of the time.
in japan the NDS and wii are still out selling everything and in most of Latin America the 360 almost doesn't exist on "official" sales compared to the PS3

not to mention that market research usually avoid even talking about the PC as gaming platform that its been the first gaming platform for quite long especially thanks to Steam and DL games.

NPD is, and has always been the industries most respected researcher.

the US market is the standard setter, and the largest, and therefore mostimportant. i dont think anyone with knowelge of all the numbers really cares if the 360 doesnt sell in latin america as their market is but a fraction of the total market.


and the wii will not outsell everything. its biggest selling point, montion sensoring, is now obsolete compared to kinects vastly superior technology.

hmm when it comes to sales the best thing its having many research sources. I should clarify that NPD has been a little weird since they gone into the only releasing certain info and not other.

about the US yep one of the biggest, but still not the only one. for worldwide companies all markets are important. including europe, japan and LA.

and regarding the wii... as usual its never been about tech. its always about games. the games out on the market for Kinect, not many are really that "great" they are entertaining and all... but not really what i would call cutting edge tech. i mean Voice Recognition works great on windows since vista. and still doesnt on kinect. and the hardware on the kinect itself its really not big deal the software that manage it really is. but again there still isnt much.
anyway i all depends on the target audience and the games. i rather play a DKC Return with the standard sideways nes style control than the EA dance game on any of the 3 motion platform its out

secondly, its funny you mention how the wii is about games. the gameing libraatry for the wii is nothing spevcial. not once have i seen a wii game capture the type of sales or audience, or even critical acclaim that ps3 or xbox exclusive garnes

putting down the technology of kinect when it was voted one of the top 5 best technologys of the year and is outselling even the ipad is silly. the kinect brings montion sensor technology to the next threshold, easily. have you read about how they built that thing? its incredbile.

i disagree on a lot of those statements and i do have reasons that back me up on that. but after reading all the comments i think there its not much i can say that wont end on an attack comment back.

Don't get me wrong i do like the 360 not much Kinect, but i still think its okay. its just that not always raw numbers, means best.

well, I don't know...the wii managed to sell other two millions in the last month even just in USA...and nintendo still didn't pull out the price-drop card...it improved the situation of the gamecube back in the time so I can see it making the wii live for at least another year

nintendo isnt a magician. they cannot continue to sell a system that has zero selling points over its ompetition. at this point, i feel the only reason people are buying it is casue they see it as a cheap alternative. even when it came out, its technology was vvastly behind the times.

i own two wiis. together, they hold up a row of books.

After everything the Wii was just a redesigned Game Cube with a newer processor. The gimmic for the cordless nunchuk, wireless partyplay and the idea of being ably to have classic N, Sega, T16, games downloaded onto a card was a draw. The hardware was never fully planned through (who uses 512mb as a replacement harddrive) and took a couple yeard before they could upgrade to using SDcards >4mb. Nintendo needs to start investing in a complete hardware upgrade to be current. Mostly in hard memory and graphic upgrades, and some tweeking in the sensor bar. Aside from that it serves the target audience as a party system.
The 360 was designed to have a long product run despite the cheap componant (or2). Despite the lack of blueray Microsoft is looking more toward to streaming HD media instead. PS3 was so damn expensive and loaded with needless accessories that could have been optional addons). Despite the rumored 10 year life run on it, the price wouldnt become affordable untill half of it went by and the parts got cheaper. PS3 is still a good deal when it comes to a blueray though.

It's a shame Sega was the first to go. The Dreamcast was a good system. However they were replacing systems so fast nobody could buy them and developers couldn't make games fast enough.

galaxy was one of the wii wii games that got critical acclaim. Why? i dont know. i played it and found it repetitive and boring. the sequal was no different.

the wii, as i said before, has mario and zelda. thats it. the people claiming that the wii was built for games, and has some kind of vast library of gold... i dont know what their smoking, but id like some. the wiis library is utter trash.

...well, no. It's actually apps that are outselling everything on earth, so, Japan's still in the dust, really =) iPhones, etc., are really where games are being quickly churned out and eaten up.

Oh and for what it's worth, gaming's pretty much completely dead in Japan, so, yeah. You're right, but I'm not convinced it's because of Kinect (yet...we'll see)

Mmmm I was never into the hold motion controlling games. I always found them trivial. I main bought my wii for nostalgic pourposes really. I grew up with nintendo and I will be with it for a long time. I love and play my xbox the most. though I still love my old wii <3

truthfully. i found the wiis controls to be a liability. some games i found unplayable due to the controls themselves.

Yeah exactly. To name a few, Metal slug Anthology on the console itself, Super Mario World on VC, and Dungeon Explorer on VC. When you can't even buy an old standby without the controls fucked.. that's bullshit.

i have both the ps3 and the 360 I love my ps3 more because its not making weird nosies and freezing every other 20 mins also ps3 loves me by giving me free online. maybe the new 360 fixes alot of the old ones problems but I don't have a job and cannot shell out for the updated model.

also saying that kinect outsold move is good that means ps3 is now the least kiddy system x3

try using the ps3 browser for an extended time. your ps3 will freeze every 5 minutes, literally.

why would i use that? i have the freaking computer in the same room... and my 360 freezes a hell of a lot more then my ps3

the new xbox 360 slim has a lower failure rate then the current ps3.

my ps3 freeses daily. sony pushes it has more then a gaming machine, something that does EVERYTHING. but its obvious it cant handle anything beyond playing a game.

The Wii's biggest strong point is the ability to hack it so damn easily. Old video games just feel different when they are played on a computer moniter compared to an actual Television with an actual controller. :P

Truth be told, I don't really enjoy the games from this generation, and I hold no loyalty to any of the systems. You like to declare the Wii as obsolete. I define it as groundbreaking.
