It seems to me that the only reason to ban a pedophile from a social website would be to protect children. It also seems to me that if we make protecting children a priority on a site where the majority of the discussion and content is aimed at an adult audience, FA is shooting itself in the foot.

I can understand being wary of a self-admitted pedophile. I can't understand banning him for something he hasn't done, and citing protecting children as your reason.

I would also like to see the legal reasons why FA would have to take pre-emptive action. Are they responsible for sex crimes? Can any legal action be taken against them? For sites like Myspace, I thought the main thing that got them to change their tune was bad press, not any successful lawsuits. If that's the case, why is FA worried about bad press?

The whole situation reeks of witch-hunting and an extension of social sites' scapegoating. I really hope the administrators of FA change their minds on the issue, because it's sickening that a website dedicated to the furry fandom would ban someone for what amounts to a fetish.

I think the reason that no one comes down nearly as hard on all those other philias that you listed is from the basic fact that most of those are not illegal and pedostuff is. Though I'd debate that just because something is illegal dosn't make it bad/wrong/evil.

But, there are a bunch of crazy zealots out there that will go FAR out of their way to put the hurt on various people/websites/org's/etc that support what -they- find disgusting.

A perfect example of this is Jack Thompson going after Take2 for their next video game. Manhunt 2 was getting the highest rating of "AO" (Adults Only), which none of the platform owners (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) would allow the game on to their system. Also, AO games are banned from various states in the USA and are auto banned in other countries around the world. (So what's the point of an AO rating if you can't even use it? That's another debate.)

Anyways... they got their game down from AO to a M(ature) rating. And then this jackass of a lawyer sent various emails saying stuff like "Congratulations on receiving a 'Mature' rating for Manhunt 2. You’ll live to regret it (trust me), so enjoy it while you can."

They are crazy, creepy people who have nothing better to do than go out and rape people with laws and lawsuits. So that is most likely the reason why sites crackdown on pedostuff and none of the other stuff.

The funny part is, I also know furs who are communists. 50 years ago, they would have been imprisoned for being anti-American under McCarthism law. These days, it would seem that the majority of us don't even know what real communism is much less give a damn about the few who peruse the site on a daily basis. We don't call them communists anymore. We call them furries. Our furry brothers. It's our fandom ideal that it shouldn't matter who you are or what background you have, or what your ideals are. We're furries, Goddamnit.

Fuck, I remember when FurryMUCK used to have "pedophilia" as one of the wixxx flags available. No, not Tapestries—FURRYMUCK. That says something about where this fandom is going. We're becoming mundanes. Mark my words: ten years from now, we'll be mainstream, and some goddamn corporate logo will be on a storefront selling ears and tails just like those two-bit seasonal anime fan stores you find at the mall. And for what price? What good?
