Fursona
After much consideration and research, I've settled on a species for my first fursuit. I do feel a connection with several kinds of animals, but at this stage, I'm more interested in finding the animal that represents a bit about me. Since I'm just getting started with fursonas, I'd like my first to be a decent portrayal of my personality as a furry before going into creating characters.
It's a thylacine (thylacinus cynocephalus), also known as a Tasmanian tiger. I'm a proud Victorian, so as much as I love Tassie, I probably won't call it Tasmanian very often! Either way, a long time ago, thylacines would have frequented the areas where I live today. They're a bit shy, go out at dusk and nighttime and are carnivorous. They're not fast runners, relying on stamina to get what they need. They have distinctive markings on their skin, which, while not as spotty as my freckles, I still count as a similarity. And they're just a little bit unusual, while not being that different.
I also like the idea of the thylacine "living on" through furries. Art has a way of telling stories and passing on information for generations. It's one way of letting a memory persist.
I've commissioned a fursuit ref sheet, and I'm researching fursuit makers to find the right one. Exciting times!
