Job Hunt

You wouldn't think finding work would be such a challenge. I'm a fairly talented person, or so I've been told. But it seems this task eludes me.
I really like the convenience of applying to places online, but I do try and visit in person as well when practical. This is less helpful than you'd think. The number of times lately I've been told that a place is out of applications lately staggers me. And then there are the times when I go in and ask after a job I applied for online, and I'm told they weren't hiring after all, or at very least they're unaware of doing so. I should check back when the manager is there next week, heh.
One place I went to wouldn't even tell me if they were hiring, or even the dreaded "accepting applications." He just told me to check the website. Wow.
The one that really gets me is Target. They don't seem to take paper applications anymore. It's all electronic. But unlike ever other place that has a system like that which I've tried, you can only do it in the store. They have two little kiosks, and if those are full up, too bad. They're full surprizingly often.
It's possible I've just not found the right link on the Target website for the job applications,I guess.
A real downside to applying online is that very often you're forced to take the (apparently infamous) Unicru assessment test. It's a winding maze of poorly worded, misleading, and uncomfortable questions that don't seem to have any right answers. I hate it with a passion, and I guess I've never gotten it right.
Anyway, just some random thoughts on the subject.
