I remember Robotech vaguely. Just some blurs here and there but, what I do remember is a lot of action. Transformers was a big let down. They should of retitled it Peeing Robots. Tobey Maguire seems like the guy who would listen to the fans and take feed back to try and make a great movie. Looks like I am going to have ot brush up on my Macross.

Well alot of changes need to be made, Timelines for one. that may change anyway so meh. I have that same dream and get pissed at the poor job Hollywood does my remakes and makes from series. Transformers would have been better following more closely the main first series epeisodes. Same can be said about Resident evil with minor changes from the way the game was made. Hollywood sucks and its hard when theres no'one that shares the visions Fans have of the genre for them. I am rooting for Toby Mc Gwire because he's perfect as Fick Hunter if he'll grow out his hair some and style it like Tye Penington (carpenter from Trading Spaces).

I didn't like the one where they started using music as weapon.. But man seriously they need a better lead actor than Toby Maguire.. Maybe someone more like Isamu Deison lol.. Jude Law comes to my mind when I think about Isamu lol I have NO idea, blue eyes compared to brown, Jude can be pretty funny though is the thing.. Heck I recommend Will Ferral. LOL JK JK!

I dont mind Toby as the main character (Rick Hunter) but as for other characters in the movie, I feel they need to use no-name actors so that you dont accosiate them with their past roles. thry just need good actors and not bring alot of comidy into it like Transformers or Independence day.

Personally I was on Battletech's side in that whole Harmony gold sewing them ordeal, I mean honestly Mechwarrior games could of had LAM's in the game! That woulda been ace.

the main question is, which season andor chronicle is it going to be based on? There are alot to choose from, considering who indepth the storyline is, and it continues to grow with the release Shadow Chronicles.

As a side note, i can't imagine Tobey playing the role of Roy.

thats the problem with live action movies these days they either make big hypes of it and disapoint or its they make a live action movie out of something that doesn't suit it at all. So hopefully they won't mess this one up n_n

I well remember when they broadcast Robotech initially and loved it, and yes it was impressive that it was not only complex (even with the stuff removed for standard censorship reasons) but they did have people dying off and on camera and gave it a reality many other shows didn't (like the animated Bucky O'hare when ships got blown up and the frogs floated away in convenient 'everyone lives' bubbles). Macross and Robotech are separate though, since while Macross was used in the creation of Robotech the Macross series haven't many of the elements seen in Robotech, for example no Protoculture, which was developed as a means of tying together the three anime used to create Robotech into one series.

ah, good ol robotech. you probably should have mentioned how old it is. some people might get turned off by the art style. but i agree with you. ;)

I loved it, but I didn't know it become live-action movie.

Robotech was good, kind of censored, cut down from Macross version, too much "americanization" on it, still its passable and enjoyable, would be great if they brought up Macross series with english subtitles to enjoy the original version.

Robotech 2nd season "Robotech Masters" 15 years later was kind of sucky, too much more drama here than needed, no idea if there was a jap version that could been better. All human attempts to destroy the enemy fail miserably

Robotech 3rd season "Invid Invasion" gets weirder, first we have giants invading earth, then we have the giant's masters and we have now bugs made of slippery snot that can take human form and have green blood, again, its kind of complicated, if you are into soaps this one comes close to it, fortunately it recovers as the plot explains itself.

Macross 2 movie: Not a soap per see quite fun to watch and enjoy, very good sticky music, for an OVA is great, enter the Marduk who are micron sized but have bigger and better guns than anyone else.

Macross Plus: Watch it once and you'll enjoy songs, effects and a great combat and storyline, preferably watch it in japanese to enjoy it in its pure form, now watch it twice or a 3rd time and you come to a single conclusion: SOAP! SOAP! SOAP! the only thing missing is the Dallas family and some rich cousins eager to cause world destruction :D

Macross 7: I only saw this one a few chapters, had to stop watching in order to avoid pucking out, in this one the pilots are singers, and the best you play music or sing, the more invincible you are, who the hell had the stupid idea of giving a VF-19 Veritech fighter... a mouth?

i do believe Maguire's face has been overly stamped in my head as spiderman... i do believe its going to be a good ten years before i can pull his head out of that role (or at least his face). I have to admit though, he does look good in that body suit *koff*

i love the macross series so hopefully it doesnt turn out like the transformers movie and completly suck

also if they make macross movie they should definetly make a gundam wing movie!

Hmm, I don't watch a lot of Anime but I know that Robotech is a much older series than Macross. Unless Macross is a continuation of the RBT series. From what I watched, I liked Macross better. ^_^

If it is not being done by the original team or being done by a major studio, you can bet your bottom doller that it will:

1. Have absolutely nothing to do with Macross or Robotech except in name

2. Suck major portions of ass

3. Be nothing more then an attempt to make a quick buck at the expense of the fans

Its a growing trend in movies of what they can take that we remember, destroy, and feed back to us in order to get our money.

Yes Zen , i`m also a old fan of the Robotech / Macross anime ( toys , model kits , posters , art books from japan and so on ) and i have the movie on VHS , a bootleg coppy though .

Loved the Macross movies I've seen, and used to watch the series when they ran it on Toonami here in the West, but I have to dissagree with you on the notion that the Transformers movie sucked.

Huh, and I didn't even know about it till just now. I know Robotech more from the American novels than the Anime, it was on one of the cable channels a good five years ago and I did watch some of it, but I've forgotten most of what I watched. With all of the advances computer animation has made, if done right, the Valkeries and the SDF-1 will just blow people out of their seats. The most importaint thing though by far, is that it stay true to the story itself. The absolute worst thing they could do is focus on Rick Hunter and Minmei so much that the rest of the story merely becomes a backdrop for their romance, or worse, they overdo the love triangle between them and Lisa Hayes.

Transformers wasn't a bad movie, by sheer necessity, it had to appeal to a broad audience, most of whom wouldn't know the difference between an electrical transformer and a Cybertronian one. The only way to do that was to make the movie a tale about people. Sam, Mikaela, Lennox, Simmons, et all where in the movie to give Joe Sixpack someone to identify with. It was their interaction with the Transfomers that drove the movie. To be fair too, there are quite a few nods in the film that only someone who saw the original cartoons would recognise the significance of, including a couple of cotroversal parts where some fans have sworn they heard dialogue, where others have heard nothing. I've also heard rumors that the sequel will be focused much more on the Transformers as characters.

Transformers was good, but they should have stuck to the original story. The story they had....it was okay, but it didn't tie in with the true series....

This is some good news for me. Growing up, Robotech was one of the first anime I watched, I didn't even know what anime was that back then, all I knew is it had jets transforming into robots and I liked that. I really hope they do a good job on it. I'll have to check it out.

Macross: DYRL has to be my most favorite anime, if not most favorite movie, ever. I first saw it on TV as "Macross in the Clash of the Bionoids" during an 80s anime marathon on a local channel in 1994. It was my first exposure to real Japanese anime (save for the Saban-dubbed anime on Nick Jr.). That and other anime shows at the time made a big influence on how I imagine scenarios and draw art now. It had stunning cel-drawn animation that you don't see nowadays, and the music is so memorable too. DYRL and Macross Plus will my favorites of the series.

Now, to see if this live-action version happens to keep true to the original source material or if it gets soured by its own grandeur. :3

I grew up with Robotech and have always been a lover of the series, though I haven't had the pleasure of seeing them all. Maximillian W. Sterling (Voice by Cam Clarke, AKA: Liquid Snake) was my choice fave character after he was introduced and made Rick second. I'm not sure a movie would be a good idea. It would have to be far in the future instead of starting off from the very beginning.

Live action Robotech? BLECH! Let crappy edited sanime lie. It's really sad that they butchered Macross and other shows to make Robotech. But, a live action Macross would be kinda cool. Violence and Contrivance are nice ones... but Itano circus is what Macross is about ^_^;

I like the action scenes in the new macross but its too childish for me compared to how the original and macross zero is. i dont know why they had to ad a kiddish element (that girl) and too much comedy. i dont mind those elements but just not in the macross universe.

Personaly I think the mild comedy aspects add a tone of realism. However in regards to her hair moving almost like limbs, that was pushing admitidly it a little bit. Frontier and 7 are good, great in many regards. But compared to the original they would always be the successors; something trying to compete and exceed the original (which sadly they are limited in doing so because of Harmony Gold). Zero's charm, in my opinion, is that it was more realistic. Infact it almost felt historic. We have a setting that is almost modern yet feels older like a world war 2 feel to it. :)
