Hi
My name is Suzanne Stratford. I'm a reporter with FOX NEWS CLEVELAND.
I hope you don't mind me emailing you - I found the address on the net.
I'm working on a feature news report on Furries. I saw the episode of Entourage and thought it was pretty wild and pretty cool and would make a great story. (thru research I realize it's not a sex thing like they showed)
I am interested in learning what it's all about.
Just for background --- I do alot of special projects.. 3 to 4 min pieces on fun, interesting subjects for sweeps.
We put alot of work into them.
If you want you can see a sample of my work at MYFOXCLEVELAND.COM. search "Regrowing Human Tissue" or "Dog Potty" or "No Surgery Nose job". Those are just a few since our website went on-line.. '
Hope to talk to you soon
Sincerely
Suzanne

The website and name seem to check out. I have no intention of doing an interview, being a, uh, non-ideal representative for the fandom (as well as not trusting this woman to do an objective piece). Interesting though.
Also, you HAVE to go look at this comic. http://xkcd.com/311/

For two, good call. A journalist has been poking about my area lately too, and the response has been about the same. I've done news before, and though it was a lot of jokes and spoofs, I learned how easy it is to tweak what someone really said. The angle they're going for, likely not in your favor.
While these pieces are never malicious in intent, the 'fun, light side' they try to portray often just seems embarrassing. Since she's supposedly looking to learn about the non-sexual aspects of furry, I could easily see her piece making it seem goofy, with a lot of PG drawings of anthro characters. So, you end up with either furries appearing to be sex-crazed misfits, or goofy anti-socials.
I think you're making the right choice in staying clear of something like this. Just imagine your friends, co-workers and family seeing you on TV, along with who-knows-what kind of furry material they intermix into the piece.
I won't be contacting them. I don't believe the media need any more material than they already have. x,x
