Turn for the Worse

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
-William Shakespeare
Well, things are not going so well around here. Last journal I’d said that the doctors told my dad that he had what looked like might be the start of pneumonia. He’d been looking better, looking worse since, and today it got to the point where his speech was slurred and he had no sense of balance. I had to help him get into the car so that my mom could drive him to the doctor. My mom gets back home about an hour and a half later, alone, and informs me that my dad was being taken to another hospital’s ICU via critical ambulance, and that they’d contemplated using a helicopter.
Turns out full blown pneumonia had encased both of his lungs, and that his body was reacting more like an elderly man as opposed to a man in his late 40’s. They had him knocked out and were putting tubes down his throat. Yeah, pretty scary, especially since his fever hadn’t been looking all that bad recently. He sounded to be in a great deal of discomfort, but he’d been able to walk a bit and the fever seemed to be at bay.
Only a couple days ago the doctors talked about it like it wasn’t serious. When he didn’t get better they just told my mom and dad to use a different medicine. About a day and a half after that he’s going to an ICU at a hospital via critical care ambulance. Makes you wonder doesn’t it? I’ll likely visit him tomorrow. So not only is my brain power next to nothing, I have the worry of the state of my father, so there’s a good chance you might not be seeing a lot of me around here, especially as far as submissions go, for a while (though it would be awfully ironic if this proved to somehow be a creative catalyst).
Anyway, I thought I’d share with you all, as this is really one of the only social outlet I have for such a thing, and I’ve always found it relieving to share my thoughts and emotions with others, even if all they do is lend an ear (or their eyes in this case I suppose). It’s a lot better on the mind than bottling it up, I know that for a fact. He should get better, but what’s scary is that he never should have gotten this bad in the first place, so I’m just worried. Nothing’s ever hit quite this close to home before, not like this. People die of pneumonia, and people of dad’s age don’t normally get this bad.
Well, that’s all for now. Now I need to figure out what I’m going to do with myself for the rest of the night.
