Well, do it as long as the phase last and then go back to drawing anime, no problem in that.

You shouldn't even have the mindset of drawing "Anime" anyway.

Learn skill first then learn how to do big bubbly eyes.

Almost every artist starts out with some kind of idea of how they want to draw, but becoming a great artist is being able to draw what your mind sees regardless of the "Style" you do it in.

Don't let Anime hold you back. Let it be a stepping stone and not a brick wall.
