Well I heard about it when I was 9 which was 2001 but I didn't become a member of it till I was 13 in 2005. I didn't discover it in one place. I found out about it though word of mouth but they weren't very discriptive and it didn't grab my interest. I later found out about it on the internet, funnily enough because of furry haters sending me a message on YouTube about how sick and wrong they are. I was curious so i investigated, talked to a few people and just found myself hooked. Sure there are something associated with the fandom I disagree with but I've found that if people need to attack something like a fandom to satisfy themselves they aren't worth my time. So I've been a furry for about 5-6 years, though I guess it depends on how you look at it. Thats how long I've declared myself a part of the fandom but I've always prefered animal and animal like characters since I was about 6 so I guess that would make it 12 years going on 13.

Funnily I knew I was definatly gay at the age of 8 and was fine with that, I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle I would grow up with if I told certain people, so I kept it to myself quite happily until recently.

Stumbled across Bernal's old Furnation site (yup, he had one, and had some neat clean work on it as I recall) around 1999 or so whilst searching for porn. Was a wee bit of a shock to the system even though, uh, I'd already been fantasizing about that sort of thing before then.

Over a decade ago, when i made an alien (and coincidentally furry) character as a mercenary for some storyline RPing, but then went into an AOL public (sex) chat, and someone playing a rat took interest and said "eat me" (literally) .... after asking a few question and doing some searching, here I am! I first decided to be a furry because of the fact that I simply screwed with the local media...a lot.

There were some "unaffiliated" newsteam or something like that(never really knew who they were) at the furcon that Indy has once a year. So they decided to round up the skanky and dumb furs (or what they thought were skanky and dumb, I guess I did look kinda bad in that fursuit). So they start asking us questions yadda yadda... Finally they get to the age-old question of what our sexual fantasies were and all that. All of them got up and left because they knew this person could nt be trusted, except me because I had I different idea, and it wasn't saving the fandom.

So he starts over and with the same question that made everyone leave in the first place. So I decide to start going completely apeshit on the guy and give him answers that he couldn't misconstrue. About the fifth sex related question in and I ask him if he would like to answer my question and he says sure, fire away...

And so I ask him, "Have you ever been to a counselor?" He's shakes his head and I tell him, straightforward and honest, "I think you need to start thinking in more realistic terms here. Look over there(I point in some random direction where a group of fursuited guys people are and he looks with me). I know that guy and he doesn't even want water anywhere close to him when he's in that suit. You expect me to believe that he wants to actually have sex in that thing? I simply explode on the guy, and he gets steamrolled so badly that he leaves while I'm still blowing up in his face. Best day of my life. Been a furry ever since that time about 3 years ago.

I have always loved anthropomorphics. In 2006 I started reading an online comic called Black Tapestries (fantastic comic, go read it) about a world filled with human beings with magical abilities, they mix human and animal to create their own personal slaves, yadayada. One of the pages was a snapshot of the comic's author's characters in Secondlife. So I researched and started playing. Found a werewolf avatar that eventually led me to finding anthroxtacy and the furry fandom. I became friends with a Chakat, who later introduced me to some more local furs, who eventually introduced me to Furaffinity. The end.

2008, while I was searching for some pr0n in Newgrounds (lol) I found some flash by TerdBurgler, and then I discovered Furry Fandom, and I'm not afraid of it!

For me, it was during the time of the second or third generation of Digimon on Saturday morning TV that introduced me into the furry fandom and having done image searches on the Digimon. Anthro-morphs were paired with the Digimon themes and from there, you can figure out what came next. I wanted to know more about anthros.
