This sounds spookily like the furry fandom:

Have a read of this account of being an Anime fan in the 80's. It sounds almost exactly like what Furry had been up to a few years ago.
Looking at what the Anime fandom is like today (retail shops, conventions numbering the tens of thousands, TV channels), would you say that Furry might follow a similar trend?

cool, in a way, though. More socially acceptable, eg. Anime fans these days can go round with Yu-Gi-Oh hairdos and folk don't bat an eyelid. Before long being furry will be just as mainstream. Many proclaim this to be a disaster, but in a way this sort of social acceptance and furriness being 'cool, if a bit weird' rather than just 'freakishly weird' as it usually seems to be seen now, would be quite awesome.
And yes, looking at the likes of Anthrocon, attended by 5000+ people, we are getting there ^.^
its already going that way. there are numerous shops online already, also lets not forget theres huge amounts of commishioners for fursuits etc, growing in number.
Ive noticed a lot of the bigger things have already become about flash.
I.E - Buy stuff, look at all the pretty suits, a need to be the 'most awesome' suit, mock the lesser suits, etc.
Not abuot the people and meeting together for a common interest.
London is entirely about the fursuiters. No pictures of the none-suiters really, its all about the suits, followed by alcohol.
Whereas smaller meets are about the people and havin fun :P
London, for example, hired someone to man the toilet and just...stand there attending to the toilets. Why? Because it made them look more official?
No idea.
Anyway, its already going down that way. Im not really a furry anymore, i have a fursona but shes just my character, I don't really go to cons or meets anymore and I tend to just roleplay elsewhere :3
Manning the toilet? That sounds awfully like a euphamism xD
I agree, fursuits do tend to hog all the attention xD
Its just how it works.
