Uh, yes. Because I've been friends with all of my ex's before we formed a relationship. It doesn't matter if they/you guys decided a relationship wouldn't work -- if there's still a bond/friendship, I don't see why anyone has to go ~*OMG YOU BROKE UP WITH ME WE CAN NEVER BE FRIENDS*~. Just because you two (saying this in general, not really directed at you) can't be in a relationship together doesn't mean you can't be in a friendship together.
If they totally fucked you over and made you feel like shit beyond the ~*~*heartbreak of a relationship*~*~*~ then, yeah, I'd reconsider. Otherwise ... I don't see why not.

Just speaking from a standing of not ever being in a relationship before, but seeing it from the outside through someone I know at work who posed a question somewhat similar to the one you're posing. I would say, half and half yes to let them apologize for the relationship breaking up, but on the other hand. It could've been a case of a little of both sides possibly having done something or not done something to make it so that the relationship ended. At least from what I can say of sorts. As for letting them step back into your life, I would say; best to take it slow. Kind of rebuild up whatever you two might have had at one time as more or less a friendship and see whether or not, it can stay that way. Or if it needs to leave to just you two coming to a mutual understanding that there was wrongs thrown here and there. And maybe at best, just be known as good acquaintances.

If none of that made sense ^^; Then I guess all I can do is apologize since I've always been on the outside looking in on others relationships and seen what comes of 'em, so, I'm just going off observational opinion.

Im going to go with everyone has a right to state there side, be it with an apology or not. now if they happen to have random brake failure on their car afterwords is another story. Sometimes time will allow for forgiveness, and sometimes not. And as vague as most response may be, there are a lot of variables to you question. It might depend on the situation, and on the type of person you are. With me trust has to be earned. Once its broken it takes a long time to regain it. ( just speaking in general life expectancies. )

As for weather or not its their place to try and ask for your friendship back, they are welcome to ask but might not be welcomed with warm open arms. (then again there is the the situational variables left unknown. )

Yes to the first question because I am a generally a forgiving person and don't really hold grudges. The second question really depends on the person, but if they generally want to try at it again, I'd give it some consideration. Can't really say much more without getting into personal stuffs.

Well i'm confused: what exactly happened? What is the situation? Because depending upon what happened that caused the breakup, i can give an accurate answer. Example: If they cheated on me, then hell no i wouldn't forgive them. If it were something less, then maybe. You gotta be clear on the situation bro.
