Welp, I didn't end up getting any commissions over the break, but that's okay; I got a ton of other stuff done!! I did a lot of in-studio painting and some other art homework, along with some digital work for a couple of contests! This week of getting back into the swing of things at school has been fairly successful, too.
I built two stretchers from scratch (cut, glue, and nailed everything together my sellllllf) and stretched and gessoed my first canvas. It was interesting; definitely less expensive but very time consuming. I felt so accomplished and proud afterwards!! I also did a sound/touch piece for my mixed media class that was very well received. Yay!
I'm super excited for the coming week; we finally get to paint a live model instead of awful still lives in painting class! Awww yiss. But seriously man, I am so excited. I love live models, and nudes are by far my favorite. There's just something so entrancing about the shapes and colors of the human body. Also, we'll be working for a few weeks on this one so I'll really be able to get into it!
For my photography class, we've been doing street photos. I chose to shoot exclusively on buses; it worked out pretty well for me! I got some great shots, and I'm loving how my five final prints turned out.
Lately I've been looking at Euan Uglow's paintings for inspiration. I find the built-in record of his process to be incredibly fascinating. His subtlety, clarity, and vibrancy of color have just been rockin' my fuckin' world lately! So good!!
So anyways, it's time for class now. Have a lovely week, dears!
