maybe its overheating? open it and check if there is a big amount of dust inside it, especually in the fans of the CPU and the graphics card

my computer's already stripped down and all naked and looked real naughty...

but what the heckl.. i didn't run a DNA profiling lab in my room... it's silly to overheat just because i run ms words and couple other apps..

did you have it running with an open case then?
and dust actually does that^^ a PC full with dust overheats very easily, even if you do simple stuff with it

what should i do? throw them in a dishwasher?

just carefully clean it with a vacuum cleaner. you dont even have to take it apart :P
and make sure you only run the PC with the case being closed. in a closed case you have a systematic air stream and in an open PC you dont and the temperature is actually higher

was by me too. the hard drive was overheated and so it just turned off from itself
maybe put an cooler under the hard drive? i just don´t really know...

hate to say it buuuut, this sounds like hard disc failure. The needle is scratching on the platter. This is the computer equivelent of blowing a head gasket. Either way, back your shit up and take it to a repair place.

to be honest the easiest fix would probobly bee to backup the things you wish to save and format the systemdrive (aka reinstall your os)

if you wish to check if it overheats (doesn't sound like overheating though) get a program called realtemp and you will see if it goes over like 80-90C otherwise i would strongly recommend NEVER to use a vacuum cleaner inside of a case it gives of static electricity which will if your unlucky kill your computer entirely. to clean a computer use canned air or a brush(clean) of some sort with the power off.
reason to why i don't think its overheating is that you would probably see a lot of bluescreens if that was the case
