Boomer's appeal is tomorrow

Boomer The Dog's journal
Finally it's here, the appeal date on my name change, Wednesday the
30th. I had tried to change my given name to Boomer The Dog last August,
but the court denied the change, saying it would cause confusion in the
marketplace and with emergency services if I had that name. The court
also said that they didn't want the change because they think I'm not a
Dog.. ;)
I think that my arguments are solid, but this is court, so anything can
happen it seems. Hopefully this case will help any Furries who feel
passionate about their names and identities to become what they desire.
Yes, I do think that a name can be an important part of what you are. I
got a letter from someone local in Pittsburgh who hoped that I realized
that a name wasn't an identity. I barked that yeah, it isn't everything,
but it's a part of the whole picture, and with me it's a big part of my
personality too. Boomer The Dog is my calling card, a description, and
what I am to many others, as well as the identity I've grown into and
become.
I was Boomer The Dog on my radio show in high school, with all of my
friends and in the community. When I signed on the net for the first
time in 1997, it was the first and only name that I've gone by ever
since then on line, something I don't even have to think about. With
being Boomer so much, it got to the point that it was silly NOT to go to
court and ask for the change.
A Fur friend asked why I had to go to court, and why not just use my
Furry name when with Furries, and my given name in other places, 'like
the rest of us'. If someone has to ask that, they just don't understand
what this is about, and how deep the meaning is. It's about way more
than a Furry identity to me!

that if you wanted to, you know you could go to court and have it
changed easily.
I think that nothing much will change in the way people treat me,
because I bark to everyone about it already, and have business cards
with art of myself the Dog, name and web site if they're interested.
In fact, folks I meet are almost universally positive about the name and
the idea of being a Dog, it's art to them and about being different, and
getting the name will be just another chapter. They already hope that
I'll be able to get it now.
An odd name isn't going to hold you back, there are all kinds of
'different' or hard names out there. It's a way to be distinguished,
memorable, and it makes an interesting introduction. What's not to like
about that?

It's different in every county or province, and your local court should have a kit of documents showing exactly what you need to do to change a name in your local area. You should be able to find that on line, but you can go to your courthouse, find the division that deals with names and ask them for the papers and how to fill them out.
That's what I found out down the road, but if you think you could be JaSonic for a lifetime, you can at least have a look, it won't cost anything but some time to check it out.
For me it was silly not to, I'm known as Boomer The Dog all over in my life, so it just made sense to go to court with it. I plan to try again later after I write up the papers for it, more evidence as to why there's nothing wrong with the name and how much I'm known as Boomer. For me, I don't have much of a split, my fursona IS who I am, and it's not from being Furry, I knew I was a Dog before I knew about Furry.
Cool, I didn't know that you were here on FA, and hope you liked the Border Collie.
See you on Doggy Radio, woof!

It's great that you found yours at 2, I don't recall it that early, but my kindergarten teachers said I was 'different' then. Mom read the Jungle Book to me at 7 and I was all into it and wanted to live with a wolf family in the Seeonee Pack. I saw the transformation scene in The Shaggy DA at 11, and that's where I found my real Doggishness and it's been with me since, with Here's Boomer from TV as my mentor Dog.
The big money interests in the fandom seemingly want to clean it up and paint Furry lifestylers as too extreme, but hey, that suits me, when I do something I'll take extreme and be all into it. Ain't no half stepping.
What I used to bark to people is that I'd walk up to the president of the United States and bark that I was a Dog. I've had people all along that tell me I'm not a Dog, getting in major trouble for what I believed in school, where they try to make someone normal to fit in. I don't really listen because I know it's right for me to be a Dog, and they just help to make me tougher. Now things aren't so bad, I get lots more tolerance these days, and even some respect, woof!
Thanks so much for writing and stick around, it's good to have buddies who have this animal connection that's more! For more, you can look at my site http://boomerthedog.net . I bark about the TV show there and other things. That episode of Taboo with me might be on again this coming Tuesday at 6 pm US Eastern time, but I'm not certain yet.
