Scanner trouble

So my computer refuses to recognize my scanner.
Does anyone have any scanner recommendations or warnings? I have no idea what I want, I don't want to spend much more that $150, and I'd like something nice.
Commissions: OPEN
$4 for simple pencil (see Dancekommander)
$5 for ink (see "Pit Bull" but finished, of course)
$7 for detailed pencil (see Jeff)
$10 for color (see Hash)
+$2 per extra character
$4 for colored, laminated con badges
$1 for Shrinky Dink charm or pin

I have an HP ScanJet G4010 that I paid $150 for some months ago that's AWESOME. I love it, especially compared to the 5 year old Canon LIDE 30 that I used to have. It has lots of great functions for color correction and can even scan 35mm negatives. It's definitely a sweet scanner indeed!
