Being overwight and baring skin in public?
Ok...I keep battling with myself over this, so i thought I'd get some other opinions. Ok, I am going to attend an outdoor public event in costume (the Georgian Renaissance Festival). I plan to go in my tribal belly dance outfit (This is the general look I'm going for: http://images.tribe.net/tribe/uploa.....8-72337cc96bee ). Now, here's the question...I'm not tiny, but not gigantic or obese either...would it be terrible and gross if I showed some midriff? Or would people just think I was a poorly/inappropriately dressed slob/hoochie ? I tried covering my tummy up and I look like I have an extra 15-20lbs lbs of weight...though bare skinned I look slimmer. Here's me last year, for general size reference(though that vest does hold things in a teeny bit-but I didn't like it, it has been cannibalized) : http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5505173/ (though I do have a little bit of the horrible stretch marks :(

I don't see any issues with showing your midriff. I've seen MUCH more skin shopping at Walmart.
I always felt a little uncomfortable, like everyone was staring at me not cause I was a good dancer, but because everything was jiggling around. The other girls in my group always assure me that it's not the case and honestly, if you you are a great dancer, or can at least fake that you are, people will look past the couple extra pounds. So go for it!
I've been involved with belly dancers, professional artist-level dancers since I was a child. If you are uncomfortable or hesitant I would definitely go with a body suit. I know a lot of serious belly dancers that use them. It would also conceal stretch marks.
Other than that, I don't think you have anything to worry about. ^.^
belly dance community encourages midrift <3 if you're comfy with it, DO IT.
I wouldn't personally, but I'm still at like 290 lbs soooo :B
if you look nervous and self-conscious, slouch and keep tugging your top down your or skirt up, then you'll look awkward and ill-suited to your clothing.
just own the look and it'll work out.
