Well apparently these guys don't want people asking /too/ many questions about the whereabouts of their suits... Esh called me today and threw a fit on the phone, and then canceled my commission, keeping my $400 deposit!

yeah, that's illegal I think. You should definitely pursue this

They can't give you updates etc, if they don't have internet, they call, you call, just talk to the people who have been calling and chatting like Reynard for example *facepalm*

So how can they continue to respond to quote requests the very same day they're sent without the internet? It seems their time may be better spent responding to their current customers with updates rather than trying to bring in new ones. :\

When was this? They haven't taken commissions in awhile, plus I'm sure they answered some emails if they answered messages on the quote requests (some people still email them there instead of the artist accounts or calling them). You can not have internet, let people know this, while still updating others that have upcoming deadlines, they have been sending things via online when they could, like WIP updates with free wi-fi at places when they had the chance, but the point of the phone was so people can reach them asap. They can't sit at free-wifi places 24-7. I just received 3 emails from different people who called them after emailing me and wanted to let me know they are happy with everything now. I honestly don't talk to them very much, I was in contact with them when Saluna was having an emergency operation, and now recently, but my point being is, if there is a way to constantly contact someone then why is no one taking advantage of that? I see people asking abut emails, if they don't get an immediate response, call them. They are working very hard to get internet up again, but in the mean time, call them, they are very nice people. I was just chatting with a quoll person who is now very happy with his situation. Communication is available with them, just call.

I'm not going to sit and argue, I don't need to involve myself or be a "friend". I have my own business, they have theirs. But I would rather not get emails from commissioners asking about email responses when they know they can always call them in the mean time. Hints my post here. I'll only be posting here this one time.

Also, yes, I will be staying there for some of the summer, I have told them I will help them catch up since I feel very sorry for Saluna (who is getting much better ) they are actually catching up quickly with a lot of the work, but with her incident it makes things difficult.

You say they haven't taken commissions in a while, yet this very journal says they are taking commissions *right now* and your own journal of 2 days ago is specifically telling people to commission them because you are closed.

They are replying very promptly to quote requests. They are not replying promptly to requests for information on existing and often very late commissions.

When it comes to custom made highly expensive commissions, phone is NOT APPROPRIATE. There is no record of the conversation. There is no evidence if something goes wrong, such as a missed deadline. Even when I IM with people, I ask them to send me an email with a summary of the result (any agreements on design, dates, quotes etc) so I have it on record. If you live in a different country, phoning abroad is either extremely expensive or annoying and inconvenient (buying a phonecard, setting up special skype accounts etc). I know at least one of their customers lives in Denmark, it's completely inappropriate to expect her to call someone in America just to get news on her commission.

if you are running a business that requires constant communication with customers, you make sure you have internet, period. If you move home and are waiting to get hooked up, you go to the library as often as is appropriate, or you use wifi in a coffeeshop in the evenings after work, or you go to a friends house, or sign up to a data-package on your phone, or go to an internet cafe, or any one of a dozen ways of getting online. This is ESPECIALLY important if work is seriously overdue and customers are attempting to contact you.

People aren't expecting updates the instant they send mails, the problem is they have sent emails asking for updates on OVERDUE commissions with MISSED DEADLINES and have not been getting replies days, weeks or months later, while hearing news of people asking for quotes getting replies on the same day. This is horrible business practice.

But that they are working on setting up internet, and are still answering emails when they can, but in the mean time they are always available to call or text. Hints my post here.

What I want to know is why they're taking NEW commissions for completion in OCTOBER when they still have suits that were due LAST OCTOBER.

I'm only repeating what I was told by them. I didn't read the whole journal, I just noticed a few comments, came in here, and saw comments about not being able to reach them all the time via email, to which I let everyone know that for now phone was available, even coming to the shop is fine with them. They are always there.

Also, where does it say in my new journal to go and commission them? I have an icon in my journal header and "go to"? Is that what you're mentioning? Actually, I should update the top most header of my page, as I have "they will be open again in the coming months" but this must be too old.

As I mentioned, I will actually be there in a week, to stay for a little while and help them catch up after Saluna's emergency surgery.

They contacted me and gave me a update and even are trying to make up for the lateness of my commission. Maybe we should give them a break because they are new makers and they do seem to be at least trying to settle things and make them right.

There are at least SEVEN people on here desperate for updates, and at least three are somewhere between slightly and seriously overdue. May I suggest as a fellow professional that you stop taking on new work and clear your backlog of 6 month+ overdue suits? Once everyone in the current queue is taken care of and giving you glowing reviews for timely high quality work, you will have no trouble at all filling later slots.

That IS theft and they do not have the say so to even cancel your commission like that. That is very rude and disrespectful.. I am really sorry that this happened to you.

Much agreed. I'm only two months overdue, but that's still substantial. I understand the medical setbacks and all, but these things happened around my actual projected completion time, and up till then had seen nothing. I am on this list as a gift for a dear friend, and I felt very sad having to tell her why she didn't have her birthday present within the same month, or even months later.

I'm willing to stay on and see this through, it just bothers me to see so many more new projects getting added to their queue still.

Has anyone been able to contact ALAN or FIND him at all?

I'm also owed quite alot of money from him, also not in the US so I don't really know how to go about getting it back.

Is there any way we can get some sort of mass lawsuit against him? There was a journal on his facebook (before he deleted it) that said he'd been told that he as a person wasn't liable, but SOMEBODY must be and if the company is registered in his name it probably is him.
He owes alot of people alot of money. I for one am sick to the back teeth of being avoided and ignored. I know things happen in people's personal lives but thats no reason to take commissioners' money, not do the work, delete all means of communication and ignore them. Seriously pissed off about this.

If he is a LLC I am pretty sure he personally is not liable but his company is liable. Of course if the company has no money I do not know what happens next.

I paid up a full $850, no sign of anything... I've already spoken to a lawyer local to him. I suggest others do the same.

I'm out about $650 on a head I commissioned, paid in full for, and never got- its been a year now. I was being patient through all of the turmoil and problems he and his significant other kept having, but now I'm sure I'll never see my finished commission nor my money back. Last I heard, he was homeless and has no contact information. I don't want to say this was all a huge scam, but in this day and age its hard to tell. I don't know what to believe anymore.

I am out of about $200 myself.

I'm just thankful I only sent the downpayment. If I had sent any more than $200 I would be beyond pissed. It's still a lot of money.. but I'm just thankful it wasn't more.
