Religious zealot parents complain about books and pressure schools and libraries to remove them. And if they don't get their way, they get in contact with one of the several religious zealot politicians to do it for them.

Obviously these parents are too lazy to be a parent to their child. They want everyone else to do it and suffer for it. If you don't want your child reading Harry Potter, then don't let them. But don't try to take it away from other children because you don't like it.

I agree to a certain extent. It's not all religious / zealot parents. It's the OVER-religious / zealot parents. Not all religious people are the same.

Waldo books were banned because parents felt uncomfortable for some of the fooly cooly shenanigans that happens in the beach scenes.

There is a lot of books that are banned. It is an outrage of education in a gestalt universes of correlation vs. an enculturation of supportive culture that seems to lug out over the years dispite fabrication of failed ideas of a perfect society.

I mean Yes if your a religious person you can tell them better instead of say its like Satan and such.
Parents never have time for there kids and let them free. And they wonder why kids get hurt everyday.
A Book is a Book that has just imagination. I mean like twilight Shit I'm surprise there not banning any vampires books lol.
What we have learned from those books can be something, that has been around in ages Like Huck Finn. yes but its a books to read and to learn cause back then slavery was real. And Color Purple. And A Wrinkle in time.

unfortunately there are alot of closed minded parents who want their kids to be just as closed minded. Then there are those who want everyone to be as closed minded as they are. Unfortunately those people tend to hold power in lobbying or political groups :(

Wait, what? Who's banning books? In the classroom or on the whole? I know people (being a writter, my husband and self included) who can't live in a world without books. Either way, it's stupid to ban them, let the kids decide what they want to read, not the school board!

From Schools and Libraries? From School Libraries? Um, books are what make all three what they are! Stupid people. Like I said, though, it would be a much better idea on the required reading thing, though, if school boards picked out age-appropriate books, and sent a list to the their registered children and let the kids vote on what they want to read that year. That way, the kids have the say so, and the parents will have to deal with it, because the kids voted on it. It was annoying how many books were on the required list that just weren't interesting when I was in school.

But schools are getting stupid anyway; they're campaining to remove chocolate milk, and some are starting to put the children's BMI(Body Mass Index) on their report cards. If they want to stop childhood obesitity, then I say put the play areas back in McDonald's and Burger King, so the kids can run off that burger they just ate, and put P.E. and Dodgeball back in schools, extend breaks or role the two together to encourge movement. As for the books, I agree with you, don't ban them. But then, that's what the government wants, stupid kids with small horizons who won't think for themselves, and fall into the traps of limited thinking, so they won't recognize when they're getting screwed over.
