I have an app that allows me to tether my phone to my PC via USB and use the internet on my PC. However this lite/free version does not allow me to connect to secure web sites (https) and does not have UDP support. Would this make it so I can not connect to some video games? League of Legends and RIFT will not let me log in. It just times out on RIFT, which is also what it does on https websites; it waits a while, and times out. It also times out on League of Legends, waits a while but the error it gives me is that my password is wrong, which it is not.
Bought the app's full version, problem fixed. Most games use secure servers (https) to log in, which is exactly what the lite version of the program was blocking.
For one, cell phone ping is pretty bad. Like 200 to 300 ms. Second, I know what app you are talking about, and you have to buy the app to use those features. There's no way around it. You can try some others too, but I believe they are pretty much the same.
The timeout issue you are having could very well be because of your ping times. Real time gaming is pretty much impossible with mobile internet.
Actually my ping is staying at about 100-130ms; the ping is fine, I talked to a friend who said most games use https servers (secure servers) for login purposes, which are currently blocked with this lite version of the app. So I bought it, and am now waiting on the email with my activation code.
It would be best just to invest in an internet connection. A phone is not the best thing to use for the internet. Like thetakare said. The ping on a phone is horrible. Lots of lag and hassle. Other than that just look at other apps.
The only internet out here is dialup or satellite. I will not use either. Dialup is dialup. 5kb download speeds at best. Satellite is about 500ms + ping times. Again, no.
