Some people are calling it cowardice or disingeniusness on JK's part to not make it explicit in the books themselves - me, I think it's dead clever. There are probably more parents who would be OMG GAY than OMG MAGIC (that seems to belong to the realm of the fundies) . . . now we find out Dumbledore's been gay all along and, just like in real life, there was no reason to make a big production number about it. Go, JK. Now I fell bad for not buying the last book.

I agree that it was brilliant. She essentially slapped a bunch of conservatives in the face with her figurative dick. And in return we have some fairly amusing right-wing blogs.

Pretty much everyone who was going to read the series has already done so. There is now no way to protect the kids from what they've already read. No matter what, Dumbledore in the book will always be exactly the same as he was when they thought he was strait.

She has now proven with great fanfare how much people's image of a character (and person) change, simply on the idea that he/she is gay, despite not showing any indication whatsoever.

Ingenious or cowardice, either way the fan-fics or going to have a field day!

As for myself I believe it was a bold move, but I don't think we need to know each and every character's sexuality. *shrugs* I don't see it as a problem either way.
