When one just slabs one color of paint on a canvas, covers it completely with said paint and calls it art.

I forget the artist, but someone once sealed up several cans full of his own shit (no really, poo) and they went for thousands! People asked him if there was really poo in the cans and he said "open it and find out"...no one opened them XD

I know of another aritst who just tied a starving dog to the wall inside the museum and left it there. that was supposed to be art too

I mean depending on how the photographer captures the melting ice sculptures can look quite nice. The lighting (including rays of light that come through the ice), angles, and color tone can make a rather intriguing photo.

I think there's actually a modern art exhibit of nothing but a box in a room. There might be a color scheme involved but... a box in a room. Really.

See, we just had this discussion at a local museum

You can't call it "dumb" because art is subjective, and thus, lots of various things can be art.

Lots of people say, "I could do that, that's not art", but the fact of the matter is: you didn't.

Like the black square mentioned above, or Pollack, or Mondrian. It's art because they made it, and it causes a reaction in someone.

Granted, the dog tied up in the museum was rather sick, I don't count that :x

Art is subjective and people can say various things about it, yes...
We have our own opinions. But there are things a majority of people will count as being "stupid," and the responses in this journal are an example of that.

In the same way you think the dog tied up is "sick," other people can look at other art and say it's "dumb."

At the National Museum of Art in New York, there's a fluorescent light hanging at a 45* angle on the wall and apparently it's an art peice.

Look up the Dada movement and its randomness, especially the "found art".

Hmm thats a hard one...I believe drawing, music, singing, stand-up comedy, even Youtube Poop are all forms of art, some are good at it, some arent and some start off rubbish and improve...yeah that is a hard question alright and for someone with an IQ of 119, im absolutely befuddled...there's 'pickup artists', the art of bluffing in poker and martial arts. It just feels right to assume its 'bad art' if the person performing the subject has failed horribly on it, enough to make me say 'This sucks!' I guess

My drawing teacher this semester had us run around the art building, gathering up a bunch of used papers and expired ads and all sorts of crap. We then proceeded to tape it all together and hang it up in one of the building's galleries. It was so big, took up WALLS!!!

It was called: "Das Ist Masterpiece"

theres a guy that does "assemblage ""art"" " theres a story where he had a piece due for an art show, he went and bought a can of soup, opened it up and put a spoon in it, and that was his piece... he was paid for this....

sad thing is, all his "art" is like that, he had another where it was a dyson vaccume cleaner... and he's internationaly renound and paid big bucks......

I thought it was weird. But then again, it was in an exhibit with a bunch of other random furniture. So...whatever...

I went to the High Museum of Art here in Atlanta, Georgia once and they had a painting up that was a white background with a light blue line going down the middle. Still to this day i don't get how that's art.

I sometimes find myself jealous of the imaginative power of a little kid. I feel as we grow up, we lose a lot of that as we find our places in society and learn what is and what isn't possible in the real world.
