Yet another survey Oo
Rumors say meshes should be comming pretty soon on SL. We all know LindenLab and unless you are friend with a Linden ( which isn't my case ), impossible to have informatio; so I started to work a little on meshes in case rumors are true. But as any new system, it has pros and cons.
Also I thought this small survey would be interesting. Not only for myself but any other avatar creator.
1- What do YOU expect from meshes ?
- Low polygon, low lag avatars.
- High polygon, high detailed avatars.
- Other.
2- What kind ?
- I wants A full meshes avatar.
-Pros: It perfectly flows and there will not be any seams
-Cons: Barelly any scripted features, can't wear your old clothes, can't modify it, most regular shape settings will be be disabled.
- I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
-Pros: less seams overal, higher quality
-Cons: Less modifiable than what you currently have but you can wear your regular clothes, and as many features as you currently have.
- I want to continue with "old style" sculpties+prims
- You know pros and cons
3- When ?
- As soon as meshes gets released. I'll directly update my viewer and switch to a new avatars.
- I don't mind waiting some days/weeks.
- Never, I don't want meshes.

FA+

2: at most a mix between the old and meshes, I want to be able to wear my clothes I all ready have and I want to be able to adjust my shape though less seams would be nice.
3: I'm between never and waiting. I want to see what they actually do and are capable of before I will even try them for myself.
2. i lke the old style sculptie prims, but change is always around us.
3. i don't mind waiting.

I left my answers :D deleted everything else.
- Other. ( Qualty as it is now)

3- When ?
-When ever you get time. ^-^
Not sure honestly. However I assume opening up the perspective to create something that is not bound by the current limits (avatar shape etc) and give creators way more freedom than they have currently might be cool - for the price of the lack of modifiability. It may have pros and cons, we'll see.
2- What kind ?
I suppose both versions are good; combination of old and new may lift some limits about options that are not or hardly possible to do with the current possibilitites. But I can imagine other ideas meshes are perfect for, and don't need the oldschool technology, especially if it can transform flawlessly - imagine a snake for example (or tentacles for others). Time will tell what's possible and how is it the best to do. Knowling LL it won't be all the bells and whistles tho. :P
3- When ?
I'm happy with my current AV so unless if there comes something uber cool (which I doubt to happen anytime soon) I won't just replace it. At the other hand, why couldn't we have something mesh-y too as well? :)
2: - I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
Ideally I'd like full mesh, but not being able to wear clothes is a pitb, at least until mesh clothing starts coming out.
3: I'll be updating my viewer as soon as mesh comes out, but I don't mind waiting for quality.
Not much, in fact, i don't know much about Meshes, just heard a few times about them. I don't care much abaut them, I will see how they fit in SL and what the Talented Ones do with them.
2- What kind ?
I think, a Mix of both won't be wrong, as long there aren't to big benefits. Full Mesh Avatars won't work. Like the current Full-Prim avatars will be there just a small group who uses them.
3- When ?
I don't mind to waiting a few weeks. I don't care much about them, but i can't really see the difference between Meshes and Sculpted Prims. I think, Meshes are only good for bigger Projects/Objects mit much more details (like Weapons, Stargates, etc)
1- What do YOU expect from meshes ?
- Low polygon, low lag avatars.
detail should be enough when it is achieved in texture I do think
2- What kind ?
- I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
I didn“t know that meshes wouldnt be modable.
3- When ?
- I don't mind waiting some days/weeks.
Hmm..
Ok here's my answers, hopefully with my reasons.
1) Low polygon low lag. The detailing can be made up with god textures. Hopefully textures will wrap around things a bit nicer because there are fewer seams, so a good texture will become a very good texture :)
2) Definitely a mix. I think the trick is to make the very best of all the technologies available.
3)I will switch viewers to a mesh compatible one as soon as mesh is out. (If you don't you will see a lot of pancake-heads walking about :p) As for utilizing it in my own builds, I will say that as soon as I am confident building with it, I will start using it.
As for buying the next new avatar which is mesh..? Perhaps... If it is a cat, and a DSD. Otherwise I will wait until a mesh DSD cat of some sort is made... *looks at Oken* :p
1- What do YOU expect from meshes ?
Basically, it seems like the BIG plus to mesh avatars is that there are less seams. I don't know tooo much about it, but it seems like the meshes could either be extremely high detail and look awesome, or lower detail, and still look pretty awesome, as they have no seams.
2- What kind ?
Either a mix or even just stick with the old sculpties + prims. I have spent so much on clothes, I wouldn't want to complete ignore those haha x3 And, since I've modifed... hmm, yeah, every single piece of my avatar to get it to look 'like me', I'd say I would miss a loss of customization there, too!!
3- When ?
I don't mind waiting a bit... if something REALLY excited me, I'd probably update right away!
Overall, mesh avatars look REALLY cool, but if I can't wear my clothes, as they say, THAT'S A DEALBREAKER for sure!! And, with less customization options, if you have a somewhat odd animal, it could be a lot more difficult to get what you want out of the mesh...
- Low polygon, low lag avatars.
- High polygon, high detailed avatars.
2- What kind ?
- I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
3- When ?
- I don't mind waiting some days/weeks.
- Other: A good mix of both efficient poly and beauty.
2- What kind ?
- I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
(I want to wear my clothes, but have standard parts as mesh/sculpts such as head, tail, and lower legs)
3- When ?
My viewer is ALREADY COMPATIBLE with mesh so I would use it right away.
headaches of all kinds,
2- What kind ?
pros clothing and hair will flow over the avi and not back through it
cons modifying them and not sure on scripts headaches
- I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
3- When ?
will see how the new viewer is and it better support my older avi's i love them still
2- What kind ? I want a mix between old prims/sculpts and meshes
I'd like to ease into it at first, find some nice hybrid designs, though if an av designer expands enough to get some good outfits or sufficient customization, even a full av would be excellent.
3- When? Well, I will be able to view them almost immediately, but may still only use it some of the time much like I currently am swapping between Kirsten's and Imprudence, but I probably won't buy until I see something particularly good out there. My first mesh stuff will probably be some new accessories rather than a new avatar unless of course someone just -happens- to make a purple snow leopard that better suits me. =^-^=
