Worldcraft: ROUND THREE!
Welcome to Round THREE of Worldcraft!
As before we’ll give you a planet and several creature or environment choices, but first there’s something else we wish to address.
We are currently trying to figure out a way to get more people involved with Worldcraft.
One way to do this will be the ‘Public Planet Vote’ option that will help deciding the next planet.
About a week before the end of Round THREE we’ll post a new journal with 4 to 6 different planets.
At that point EVERYONE, watchers and contestants alike, can cast one (or two) votes for the planet(s) they would like to see in the next round.
The planet receiving the most votes will be featured in the next round.
In the event of a draw we’ll either toss a coin or use our god-like planet creation powers to fuse the winning planets.
There are other ideas floating around but this one is the first we will use!
We also would like to thank the contributors for rounds ONE and TWO.
Honestly, thank you very much for the time and effort you all dedicated to our little contest.
We truly appreciate this because without your generosity, this contest wouldn’t be the same!
Now then, what or who do we need this time around?
1) Artists!
Do you want to join the contest in creating creatures, insects or environments?
Yes? Reply here so we can add you to the list of participants! (no notes)
2)Judges!
Do you like art a lot? We'll need people who are willing to judge the submission for each contest and give it a fair and just rating.
As above, reply here so we can add you to the appropriate list. We currently have 1 judge, so three more would be perfect.
We are going to try a different judging method this round. Please stay tuned for an announcement concerning the judging of artwork!
3) Donators!
If anyone is willing to give the winner a prize (a free sketch or something) please contact us by sending a note.
Your icon will be added to our front page, along with what you will give the winner(s).
If we can’t find anyone willing to donate a prize, we’ll try to find something else to give our winner.
RULES
- Have fun! (Very important!)
- You have about three weeks to complete your entry.
- The deadline is May 26th.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 03.
- Every submission must be accompanied by a bit of text that describes how your creature lives, eats, etc. (Unless your submission is a story or a landscape, of course).
The description of your creature will also be judged and will count toward the points you receive, so be sure to put some effort into it!
- You may draw as many images as you wish, but you must specify which two you want judged.
If you do not, two will be picked at random.
- Contestants can't be judges; it messes with the scoring system.
- You can make a sketch, line art, fully colored drawing with or without background, write a story featuring a creature, make something out of paper-mâché or sculpt something in clay
Anything goes! What you want make is completely up to you.
UPDATE!
Although we encourage people to be creative in many different ways, there are some things we won't allow:
- Terrain generators (Terragen, Bryce, DAZ Studio, etc...)
- Pre-made characters (Second Life characters or environments, etc...)
These programs require no artistic skill since it generates everything itself.
It does require the ability to compose a beautiful scene or character, but that's not the point of this contest.
HOWEVER, we do not wish to be completely unfair towards those who like this kind of artwork.
If there is a large enough demand, we will expand our contest to include a separate section for computer generated artwork.
Currently we will not accept this type of entries.
PLANET
I hope you like blue, because this planet is literally a water planet.
The planet has a strong magnetic field that protects it’s surface against the destructive power of its star.
Having formed in a specific part of the universe with an abundance of water vapor and millions of frigid comets caused the surface of the planet to be covered with water.
Only the highest of mountains and volcanoes manage to emerge from the water.
With the absence of land and plant life on solid ground above water, several organisms have evolved in order to take up a similar spot in the planet’s ecosystem.
In order to take advantage of the star’s light, they formed huge patches of floating plants. In some areas, they even create massive floating forests of shrubbery and larger plants.
Although described as ‘forests’, there are no animals on the planet to actually use them as such. At best, they are flocked with insects or other small bugs.
The three moons around the massive planet keep it in a fairly stable orbit and angle.
Along with the planet’s elliptical orbit we can assume that, like on Earth, the planet experiences seasons.
The poles are covered in immense sheets of ice all through the year. The planetary system is fairly young and life seems to have difficulties to survive and adapt to the icy climate at the poles.
Creatures
1- A voracious fish with a snake-like body.
2- Small fish that can ‘fly’ by mixing chemicals inside its body to create a gas lighter than air in order to escape predators.
Some may explode.
3- A terrifying fish: the top predator on the food chain. This monster has no natural enemies.
4- A big and slow mammal using intense sonic vibrations to disorient prey so it can easily gobble it whole.
Invertebrates
1- Heavily armored sea slugs.
2- A crustacean with a claw that incorporates a stabbing mechanism to hunt and defend itself.
3- A carnivore sea anemone that actively hunts small prey.
4- A massive jellyfish that uses tentacles to feed itself.
Vermin
1- An insect that spend the majority of its life under the water’s edge as a larva and matures into a winged insect only to mate, lay eggs and die.
2- A leech-like organism that attacks creatures en masse, sometimes killing it’s larger host in the process.
Flora
1- A polyp colony that thrives on the shells of crustacean-like species, becoming coral-like once its host dies.
2- A harmless short-lived string fungus covering the bottom of the sea with spiderweb patterns, serving as food for many other creatures.
Landscape
1- A reef with the most colorful coral formations you can imagine.
2- Oceanic sunset featuring the planet's star and 2 neighboring planets.
3- A turbulent sea during a super storm. Giant waterspouts and massive waves all around.
When you send us your note, always write down your choice.
e.g.: Flora2, Creature4, etc…
The deadline for your entries is Thursday MAY 26TH at midnight!
Entries submitted after the deadline will still be faved and hosted, but won’t be judged.
HAVE FUN!

due to a last minute change, there won't be any judges this round.
We'll explain everything in a journal soon.
No celephopods, "forest flora" or bugs that live within this "forest flora"?
Still might be a contestant... just have to rethink what I was thinking.
However, cephalopods and other species will most certainly make an appearance on other planet.
Let us know once you decide what to do so we can add you to the list. :3
We're testing a new judging system this round, so the results could be very different.
Judge here, as usual. Yes, I know and have read the bit about the judging changing, but I'll slap it up here anyway.
Every suggestion or remark is very much welcomed!
And for this round, we're just trying out a new judging system.
If it turns out the old one was better, we'll swtich back to that immediatly!
I don't know.
