Cherri's picture and the doomed discussion.

So, I have angered a lot of people. I can't say I feel *all* of that anger is completely justified, as the point I tried to make;
That it is of higher importance to judge a person by them being a fellow human being, rather then having to base the judgement upon one's gender...
..came across in the end. Didn't it?
The way I tried to encourage the topic was wrong, I have admitted this. It was a touchy subject to many, and only the slightest misinterpretation or incorrectly coined term, and all hell broke loose. The worst part of it all is, I made Cherri feel bad. The insults, well.. I still feel they could've been overlooked by some objective professional debating ability, but the fact that Cherri feels worse because of what I tried to do, that does bother me.
So please, talk.

Much.
Yet still not far enough, it sometimes seems.
SHIT JUST GOT REAL
I mean, they weren't transgendered, but... Hot Fuzz, right?
Gender is a social construct that is commonly based on genitalia. There is some biological reinforcements to gender roles, but not all cultures are chained to 2 genders. Native Americans have/had "two-spirits" which are neither male nor female, as an example.
As for the actual "awareness" day, there are many children born with ambiguous genitalia which are often mutilated shortly after birth under the pretense of fitting under these gender roles. These children are more likely to not fit under traditional gender roles and may often disagree with the gender they were "assigned", but miss out on a terrible chance to follow their true gender, either as one of the two traditional roles or something outside of that mold because of a life changing surgery they had no say in.
From a purely reproductive standpoint, there are only two sexes (at least among humans). However, there are multiple genders, despite how many people may declare that there are only 2.
The comment that sparked my interest in debating the issue was that people should be able to accept that there is more than two genders. Going by social constructs, I guess there is some truth in this statement.
I still think however, that the world is by *far* not ready yet to accept a third gender social construct. Heck, only by now women are starting receiving equal treatment, and even THAT is not yet completely true in all aprts of the world. How could you possibly expect from humanity to accept a third gender if the second gender is still being supressed?
I shall stand by my claim. Intersexed people should aim for acceptance not by trying to be a "third gender", but by convincing people to look at their being, without considering gender altogether.
Also, as I stated, intersex awareness is important due to the mutilation that goes on to fit babies into the rigid male/female social constructs.
And there's a difference between 'considering' and 'judging by', which is what I tried to emphasize.
that would have been so fucking obvious if you'd phrased it correctly that nobody could possibly argue with it
you could have even phrased it as a positive statement and they would have cheered you deaf
And no, that was the social statement that followed, which was indeed one of the points I was trying to make, but the other half of it, the scientific part of the whole 'third gender' bit, was the part where things went awry.
You're making the issue seem a little more simple than it really is. If it had been so easy, I would've indeed said that right off the mark, hehe.
... here's a quote.

These wise words shouild be taken to heart "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" yes yes I know its from transformers and its dumb to some poepl for me to quote a show/cartoon/movie whatever but Prime makes a valid point that freedom is the right of all sentient beings, there for you should respect others and stop treatin people like crap jsut for being diffrent. Aparaently i offend people cause i decide to watch shows from japan, so if you people are gonna nitpick casue of the choices of others, may whatever deitiy you praise have mercy on your sorry ass soul.
Peace out from the Black angel!
All I can say is... whoa. What a rush.
Here is a guy who has obviously not read a single word that the 'agressor' (that would be me, unfortunatly) has written, yet goes on to create a poorly spelled wall-of-text rambling post in which he quotes Optimus Prime.
Currently I'm fearing the ritouse hand of judment to come knocking on my door any day now.
It really wasn't anyone's fault in particular, and I'm glad it's all over and that people acted like adults (save for a few) about it all.
I wouldn't have had any problem with it if it were, say, in a forum or whatnot, I just felt like I was harboring heated arguements by proxy.
Please don't feel upset or anything, I know that your intentions weren't what resulted. =3 *hugs*
