☢☢☢☢☢☢☢☢☢☢ CAUTION: FALLOUT ZONE ☢☢☢☢☢☢☢☢☢☢
An actual conversation...
"Man, this duopoly bullshit is going to ruin the smartphone market. If this AT&T T-Mobile merger is allowed to go through, I will have lost all faith in the government."
"Yeah man, it's total bullshit... this is what happens when the government tries to regulate things. If they didn't try to break up Bell in the first place, none of this would have happened."
". . ."
Just... what do you even say to that? "No, I'm sorry, but you're a moron."? These fucking republicans are so fucking set in their belief that "free market can do no wrong" and "government can do no right" that they actually think deregulating business will END monopolies and not CREATE them. I mean seriously, they even think that a government decision explicitly to DISSOLVE a monopoly is somehow responsible for CREATING that monopoly in the first place. WTF!? Are people REALLY THAT DUMB!? Is 50% of the entire goddamn country voting republican just because they are SO INCREDIBLY STUPID that the fact that republican policies are completely counter to their own interest doesn't even occur to them?
"Acme corp is using its monopoly power to engage in predatory practices on consumers.--deregulate! that'll fix'r!"
"Working class Americans are fighting to make ends meet--end taxes on big businesses and millionaires! then the poor multibillion dollar businesses that create jobs can afford to pay them more! Then construct a multi-trillion-dollar border wall to keep the mexicans out"
"I know it'll work because Fox News (sponsored by Acme corp) told me so!"
First of all, since the government isn't forcing companies to merge and form monopolies, then given the fact that it's happening, it stands to reason that the companies WANT to form the monopolies. If the companies WANT to form monopolies, then removing the regulations that make it more difficult for them to do so WILL NOT SOMEHOW HAVE THE OPPOSITE EFFECT. See? Logic! It works!
Secondly, Workers aren't poor because the businesses can't afford to pay them. Just look at Wal-Mart. They're fucking ROLLING in cash. If Wal-Mart corporation were to DOUBLE the amount of money they pay their employees, and start providing benefits like healthcare and dental, they'd STILL be turning a profit. The reason Wal-Mart employees are broke, is because the company is FUCKING GREEDY and wants to keep all the money it makes to itself to increase its bottom line. If you stop taxing them, all they're going to do with all that money they save is keep it to themselves for their bottom line, because we've already established that bottom line is more important to them than their workers. It's not fucking rocket science. If you want the employees to see any money, you need to increase the minimum wage and make it ILLEGAL for Wal-Mart to pay them as little as it does... and while you're at it, tax the fuck out of the Waltons, because they can fucking afford it, and yet due to all of the capital gains loopholes, they're probably paying a lower percentage of their incomes on taxes than the average hard-working American. Use that money you get from taxing them to improve medical coverage for the people who can't afford it, like the Wal-Mart employees, because the company is NEVER going to provide them with the benefits they need so long as they are not legally obligated to do so.
Third, where exactly do you think the government is going to get the money to build a fucking fortress across the mexican border, if they do as you suggest and stop collecting taxes from everyone? You can't have your tax exemption and eat it too--it doesn't work that way! You want the government to do everything for you, and yet not hold you accountable for anything? Bullshit! "I don't want to pay taxes or obey regulation, but I want you to improve my roads and public transportation and keep me safe and create jobs!" :V

Not to excuse clusters like wal-mart. I absolutely agree that it is an evil company. But there's some systemic work that needs to be done to reward companies who do well by their employees more than we reward them for making a higher profit.
