My New Icon and Wolf Hunting/Governing
We interrupt your normal FA experience for a bit of unimportant jibber-jabber ... As I was wandering across the web, I stumbled upon an image and thought it would make a great FA icon. Look at that face! In fairness, the icon was derived from an image found on the website below and is of a husky/wolf mix. The photographer was not listed.
The rest of the webpage has a lot of very provoking articles relating to wolves, their preservation, hunting, and interactions between wolves and livestock owners. While the facts presented in the blog seem to be highly slanted, they do raise very heart-wrenching points. There are also a number of wonderful photographs of wolves and other creatures. :) I see wolves as beautiful, tragically misunderstood creatures, and would love very much to see humanity come to a better understanding with them. I believe a human/wolf harmony can and should be reached.
Here's the aforementioned blog. Read it with a grain of salt.

In this spirit of fairness, here are a couple of relevant articles from sources that seem a bit more scholarly:

And ... must save the woofs! Is not their fault the cows are so tasty! Besides, <rant> they can't plead their own cases or hire their own lawyers. Someone's gotta do it for 'em. The humans can take care of themselves. I do wish the humans well, of course, but the sheer animosity toward animals, and lack of respect for their autonomy, that goes on ... It's dumb. If humans are really so smart, they should be able to find ways to keep the wolves away from their stupid cows (to which I am opposed anyway), and if they're not that smart, then maybe they need to stop pretending they're so much better than other creatures and give said creatures some more rights. Either way, species-ism is not the answer. (and I wish the cows well too. I just wish people would stop breeding them) </rant>
Yay woofs!
