Mine took 4 months to stop spontaneously bleeding and having a fit, and six months to behave and eight to really be healed. It still is a naughty little jerk if I sleep on it too much.

Rinsing with saline is great, wash your ear with anti bacterial soap twice a day DO NOT ROTATE A DAMN THING. You can do hot salt soaks dabbed on with paper towel, one tsp to 8 oz hot as you can stand water.

i researched for a year before i got my industrial, i got it about 6 months ago, it had done so well from when i got it done, it was like it was pierced, and healed in secnds XD i had no discharge from it for about 4 months, until i went to the doctor and she tugged it, almost ripping it out, thank GOD the ball was loose...
what i had seen in most my research, is industrials take 6 months to a year to FULLY heal. mine has been a pain in the ass of late from the doctor, ever since she tugged it i been getting little lumps near the holes. i havnt tries salt soak yet, but i think im going to soon. i keep using dial soap, and pollysporn. for the bumps that i been getting i use tea tree oil 2 or 3 times a day and that makes them go away ( till i next bump or roll on it then they kind of imflame again) i read that industrials were very uh.. tempermental? XD i dont know how else to put it, people after having them for a few years had mentioned them swelling up and such randomly.

Try hydrogen peroxide if there's any infection in that area. Something similar happened to me and my boyfriend had to hydrogen peroxide the nasty puss. :x

my piercer told me not to put that on there x-x so i was unsure of doing it, im not sure if its puss or a keloyd ( however you spell them) which is common in industrial piercings, its super tiny, but the tea tree oil keeps making it go away, but im getting tired of fighting with it, i think im gonan try some salts, see if that keeps it away, i want to try the peroxide but everything i read said not to use it =x its not pussy or anything, nothing ocmes out of the piercing, thts why i think its not an infection, it doesnt hurt or anything, and it king of inflames when its tugged or i roll on it
i think i rolled on it and tugged it in my sleep and i have a cut near the top ball and it hurts like a SOB! i think these piercings are by far the most pain in the ass, but they look so awesome XD

I've been looking into it, and it does take a long time to heal. I think the average is 6 months, but my friend Emily had her's for an entire year and they were still sore by the time we graduated high school. So hopefully it won't take that long for you.

It can take upwards to a year to heal. My boyfriend has one that healed in about 6 months and my own industrial healed in little less than a year. If you sleep on it unintentionally it'll take longer (I move around in my sleep and my head tends to turn to the side where my piercing is).

I'm a trained piercer and the average healing time for an industrial piercing is around 6 months, depending on fast you heal.
Sometimes it can take maybe 4 or 5.
They are quite painful, I have had mine for 2 months and still cannot sleep on that side, put large headphones on or even talk on the phone with that ear.
Mine bleeds quite a lot, especially when I catch it brushing hair and it is constantly covered in the crusties!

The only other thing I can suggest cleaning it with is any antiseptic lotion, our shop distributes a brand known as "TDC", but you can even use a dab of hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip. These will make it sting and quite sore for a while afterwards!

The best thing for it is exactly what you have been doing, washing it with saline solution.

Under a month for your normal cartilage piercing to heal!? That's insanely fast because cartilage piercings of any kind normally take at least 6 months to a year to heal.

And in RE: to Aheria. Isn't it 1/4 tsp of sea salt to 8 oz of water? 1 tsp is an awful lot. It shouldn't be saltier than a tear I believe.

Anyways, I think the fact that you have more pain than a normal cartilage piercing this time around could be caused by pressure of the barbell being in two parts of the ear at once.

I am going to take the side that it will take upwards of 6 months to heal.

cartilage piercings, in general, are known for taking a fuck of a long time to heal..compared to other areas anyway. just one single cartilage piercing took me almost a year to heal, and my industrial never did because i had to take it out for work one day and couldn't get it back in afterwards. ;__;

it's not at all uncommon for an industrial piercing to take anywhere from 6 months to a year to heal, and honestly i'm really surprised your other cartilage piercings were so speedy. XD


and just to add, there's really no reason to wash a piercing with any kind of soap as other commenters are suggesting. soaking it in a sea salt + water solution (should only be as salty as tears) once or twice a day is fine. i'm not sure how much you know about piercings, so forgive me if you were already aware of that, i just thought i'd mention it. :)

Is the piercing sterling silver? If not, I hope that you will change it for sterling silver until it heals. Most common stainless steels contain nickel which is an allergic sensitizer to many people. Gold and many nickle-free titanium alloys are biocompatible, but only silver is substantially self sterilizing and will retard the formation of biofilms of microbes. Sterling silver is actually a bit better at fighting biofilm formation than pure silver.

There's no worries. Some take longer than others to heal. I had 2 piercings that took a year n half to 2 years to heal. There's a soap called Satin. It seriously has worked wonders! I recommend using that n salt water soaks. Just one important thing. NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR POROXIDE! lol a lotta ppl make that mistake. They kill almost all bacteria, including the good bacteria that helps them heal. If you have any other questions feel free to note me! I never could understand why people would want to have themselves butchered like this. I mean putting holes in your body for a cosmetic look? I guess its just me but I don't care for piercings or tats. Keep the body as it was meant to be when we came into this world.
No offense to your decision i know that's a hell of a piercing too deal with but it will take months for you to fully heal now with that shaft of metal in your flesh.

i got one, yes it takes a while to heal. keep the spray up, i started out with spraying it 5 times a day, for about a week, then going down to 3 then 2. if there is any numbing spray available, get it, you wont be able to sleep on it for a while.

the bleeding should stop soon... uh ... trust me, DO NOT WEAR WATCHES ON THE SIDE YOU HAVE THE PIERCING IF YOU CAN HELP IT! .... i've had it happen... 3 times. hurts like hell!

just try and keep it clean around the pricing, and keep your hair away from it best you can. carful hugging people with long hair!

Mine bled if you so much as poked it for a month to two month and i dont concider it was fully healed fro about 4 months or so. I'm genuinely having more problems with the normal cartilage piercing I have in my other ear, its now 3 months old and I should be able to change it but, it's still hurting! Just keep up with spraying and cleaning it until eventually it behaves, i've had my industrial for a few years now and randomly it'll play up.

Part of the issue is the regular irritation it's getting from the proximity to your hair and such.

Echoing everyone else, mine was still a bit icky and crusty for a few months and sore for a full year. But 8 years on i still adore it so it's all worth it! Follow the great advice here regarding keeping it clean, and don't futz with it ;)
