So I've been browsing the old interwebs for a long while, and even still, I keep on finding things related to my little pony. I honestly don't get it. I mean, besides videos on youtube and such, there's art of it EVERYWHERE. Every furry site I check, more and more MLP stuff. Take E621 for example. I love going there, but for the longest time now every single new page of art has been at least 50% or more of just MLP artwork.
Why?
I mean, I even checked out an episode or two online to see the hype, but I don't get it, even now. Sure, the series isn't by any means -bad-, it's got life lessons and warm-feelings and all that blah, but to have literally exploded in popularity THIS much? It makes no sense! I'm not able to find ANY reason why this simple show would have gained so much unanimous appraisal, love, and frankly, addiction!

I've made a point to avoid ever watching that show, so I can't help you on that. But it confuses me just as much why it's popular, it's a cartoon targeted at kids. Or at least the original was, I think. Of course I also hate horses, so there's no appeal to me. I also tend to avoid the art if I can because it doesn't interest me at all. Hopefully this is all just a fad and it'll pass soon, because it's ridiculous how widespread this has become over the furry community like a disease.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I mean, it's just as good as foster's home and powerpuff girls in terms of its humour, but you don't see either of -those- exploding with popularity. Virus couldn't describe it better. I mean, I just now checked E621. 18 of the 32 pictures on the first page were about MLP. That's over half of the pictures dedicated just to this, and it's often even more than that. Not even new Pokemon gen's get that kin of popularity.

Probably doesn't help that they're already animals as-is :/ oh what the -actual- kids watching the show would think if they knew what hundreds of furries were fantasizing about their show right now...

I think it's because of how much of a makeover the tv show had. The older series was ok if you were a young girl. Now it's something that not only looks better, but is something that everyone can watch and enjoy to some degree. That and they're animals. Yay furries.

Not that it'd of been the first time a show meant only for young girl's was used as "material" for a furry, eh? XD I suppose though that this explosive popularity is moreso only with furries than with most others, so I guess that's why I'm noticing it more.
