What the hell is with all the herms?

I'm sorry but I have to pose the question. Why is everyone and their second cousin suddenly growing both sets of bits? I mean why is every other character I see online and in art one of those who has a difficult time picking a restroom?
I admit I'm not exactly flexible in the choice of gender of my own character - I never once had any desire to play a female (which seems to be rare in itself.) But honestly people, what's the appeal? Can someone explain this to me beyond the default and rather ridiculous answer of "best of both worlds" that doesn't really answer anything?
I guess you guys out there just want boobs. And yes, I know you're almost all guys. I've known hundreds upon hundreds of people with herm characters and only TWO were actually female.
I had kinda hoped I would leave the herm craze when I left Furcadia - i.e. that it was just a kiddie thing - but it's just as strong out here. Second Life has a massive herm furry population, for example. (It was amusing to overhear a group of furry herms on SL once talking about human herm avatars ingame - they were all like "furry herms are fine. But human herms? Ew." This rather puzzled me even more!)
So... penny for your thoughts, furres? I hope no one feels offended or targeted by this, I'm just simply baffled. Not trying to rip on anyone... just tell me what you think? I myself don't care for herms, as you probably all know I'm 100% straight so only ladies are on my menu - and of course recently, only one lady *snuggles his cooncat*
So tell me whatcha all think. :)

But if you're gay or bi, why be herm too?
why not?
Of course, I don't understand it... but maybe it's just because I'm straight.
I've ranted a bit on this subject in the past... I guess I have my moments of being a bit less tactful than you (;

And I have never heard of a pair of male-female siamese twins, especially since even just same gender ones have a hard enough time growing up conjoined. Can't imagine the trouble that sort of thing would be?
Why? Because it appeases my curiousity to try and now for myself just a little what a guy's view is on the world. And because spiritually, I feel a duality between feminine and masculine. Sometimes I feel so very very feminine and others, I feel oh so very masculine. You'd be surprised just how tomboy-ish I can be in real life, because I had to be since being completely feminine got me nowhere. I look myself and where I stand amongst the crowd, and I am GLAD I am who I am and who and what I see myself as. And if that includes having male spirirtual guides and forms of myself, so be it. Life is a duality; there is never a yin without a yang, life without death, love without heartbreak, friendship without betrayal.
Im not trying to make you angry with me hun, just want you to open your eyes to the possibility that some of us who choose to lead a double gender life, isn't always for the reasons you might think of.
Me, though? Personally, I'm female. I'm just weird, and I like weird things like chicks with dicks. That's how I roll. :P
Some people seem to like the herm thing, but me? Hell, It doesn't float my boat, it sinks it damn fast.
I made a specific law for my polymorphic characters, if they switch form, everything changes, he/she can't keep a trait from another form, or transmute one part of thier body.
My fursona may be able to switch genders and body constitution via Alchemic alteration, but he cant rearrange his structure to have "The best of both worlds", such would be a disaster, as his genetic code changes dramatically when he transmutates his gender.
As you may know, you can't have two different genetic codes in the same body, duh, the body then procedes to destroy itself in a rather slow and grotesque manner.
Also my fursona's female form, Anita, doesn't have a tail... law of conservation of matter. Flesh is needed to form the other anatomical attributes which a male doen't have.
HOWEVER, this doesn't mean i'm Bi, I just like to RP as a female sometimes.
