Transgender issue

Mom thinks if you're born a certain sex, you are that sex until you get a surgery. Pre-op trans aren't the gender they prefer. They're the gender their body is.
How many of you are transgender and can agree with me? I'd like to be able to make a list of trans people that I KNOW to shove in her face. I wish I could get some one to talk to her. Some one who is transgender.

Sex is what's between your legs/on your chest, etc. GENDER is a complex idea that's been defined over the span of humanity by certain guidelines, sociological norms, and a lot of other things. You are whatever gender you determine. And because most people assume this, there aren't just two genders.
Another well-educated transdude is isil. He's VERY well-read on this stuff. I know a few others if you like, and of course http://www.furaffinity.net/user/transfurs is another good source.
I don't think it'll ever be enough to say gender is between your ears and sex is between your legs because it's only half true. Sex needs to be tackled as something we put an identity on rather than a way of self identification. Not only that but we also have to take into consideration that sex exists in non-binary format(ex: Intersex.)
Shattering people's perceptions on sex and how they've been used to propagate gender roles in society seems to be the best way in my experience. People have an easier time understanding why the physical is fallible than trying to wrap their heads around the mental first.
Since technically, you are not mentally disturbed, you are just in the wrong body. But if it's not a illness, then it's not covered by social health care. And so on.
