I want to know about...
    14 years ago
            I want to know about the appeals of other fetishes that are similar to weight gain. I know a lot of wg enthusiasts overlap in their affinities for fatfurs -- a lot of artists I've come across also draw inflation, pregnancy, vore, micro/macro, etc.
I've always been curious about the origins of such fetishes, especially with inflation. What aspects of inflation are the most appealing to you? I have speculated that perhaps the threat of popping could be a really interesting point of inflation, but then again I am only guessing from my own perspective of... erm, more sadistic interests. I may be completely off-base there!
I think I've talked a bit about my curiosity about vore before as well -- I always sort of wonder whether I should consider myself a vore fetishist or not, because I really do not ever imagine my characters eating or getting eaten by predators to the extent that most art goes. The idea of vore is incredibly appealing to me, and that threat is very much a turn-on, but I have found that looking at/drawing vore art simply does not have the same effect on me as weight gain art. XD It's very strange to me, and I almost feel left out, like I'm missing something here! (Of course everyone is going to find different appeals to art though.)
Pregnancy is another one that I have a vague interest in -- I think the idea of pregnant prey would be lovely, a sort of "two for the price of one" deal. But again I think I'm approaching it based on my own interests of sadism, implied vore and weight gain (pregnant bellies can be quite lovely).
Is the idea of carrying a child also appealing to the fetish? I'm sorry if that seems like a strange or obvious question, as I really have no idea! I'm interested in learning more about that.
And micro/macro -- what are the most appealing features of that? I'm talking about both the normal Godzilla-esque/Honey I Shrunk The Kids-type characters, AND the ones who gain weight to the point of being supersized and able to knock around buildings. I am assuming there is a similar appeal to both of them.
Also: if you're going to leave me an answer that's based on any potent opinions/affinities you might have, please be nice. I see a lot of inappropriate commentary between sects of fetishism, "such-and-such makes me want to gauge my eyes out ugh" and so forth -- that kind of nonsense won't be entertained here.

Pretty simple right?
Bondage? Check, Creepy forceful Weirdo? Check, Crazy Machine? Check, Explosion? check. Any combination of these things gets me jolly pretty much.
When it comes to inflation it is (to me anyway) the "same thing" as sex allegorically. At least from a male's perspective. (I have no idea about females). Popping is interpreted many different ways though, I see it as the equivalent of an orgasm.
Vore is the same way in my opinion as it is Sex allegorically. Though I do not get vore, so I can't say much about it.
Threats and sadistic things and the like can fit into any fetish pretty well if people are into that sort of thing, its only normal from my point of view.
Pregnancy has alot of different sub interests behind it of that I know, some are just fascinated with the form of the belly, and or the fact that there is something living inside of you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pregnancy_fetishism this Wikipedia has a lot of info.
I have no idea about micro/macro, I can see the appeal based on certain other perspectives but mostly I have no idea. One common thing I see in it that it caters to the extremes of both ends which to me seems inherently sexual.
That is all I know... I think.
Strangely enough, I do not recall ever seeing it before entering this community. I have definitely seen similar situations in old Disney shows and other older animations, though. I look to fairy tales such as Hansel and Gretel to be more along the lines of my original fetishism.
Now that you mention it, inflation really does seem to parallel sex allegorically -- I have NEVER thought of that XD! That really does help me understand it a lot better.
I can also see how feeding would fall along the same lines as well. Hm! And here I thought I was fetishizing actions that seemed completely unsexual XD; With your line of thinking however, I can see it quite differently.
I think I would have to know more pregnancy/micro/macro enthusiasts before I really understand it. What do you mean when you say the extremes seem inherently sexual? You mean the extreme sizes, Godzilla huge or mouse-sized small? I'm having trouble translating that into anything sexual.
What I find interesting is that from an anthropological perspective, stories like Hansel and Gretel exist in other cultures too, or at least variations of the "If you don't behave the monsters will come and eat you!!" kinds of stories. So its pretty interesting to see the story re-interpreted across history.
I just know the origins of my fetishes stems from Cartoons and Stories like Hansel and Gretel. However I usually place myself as the victim willing or unwillingly.
Also I wish to mention that Men seem to have Fetishes much more often and in larger number than women, according to one thing I read, Basically (in my opinion as according to the article) it is because men have a much easier time getting aroused, whereas for women it can be a bit more complex, usually involving more emotion and less based upon sheer appearance and fixation upon that.
Though I don't think that really explains exactly why men seem to have fetishes more often than women, its the closest I ever found to an answer that more or less makes sense.
Since I am speaking from a male's perspective on fetishes I would assume a female's perspective would be much different in some way perhaps?
That's another thing that I vary on, whether or not I'm the victim or the aggressor -- I fixate on the actions/words of the aggressor or predator in my art and fetishism, but the emotional state of the helpless victim is something that's also very important to the situation. I'm not sure I identify 100% with either one! I'm not a very submissive person by nature, so behaving in that way outside of a fantasy is strange to me, but in sexual situations I think I identify with the prey a lot more.
And maybe there's something to that, the prevalence of fetishes in males more than females. I haven't studied that much at all, but from what I see in this fandom it would appear that fetishism is more common with men (of course, maybe women don't talk about it as much or, as you said, it's more complex than one thing or body part). I do think that the importance of emotion is more present in females as well, rather than just looking at something and feeling arousal. It is that way with me anyway -- I need for there to be an appealing narrative behind the art I'm looking at in order for it to be gratuitous.
Not into inflation at all, or forceful anything, be it eating, or vore, or inflation.
For me, it's all about soft vore. I like it, pure and simple.
Vore is about a safe feeling... Heh, I know, kinda counter to what you would think eh? *smiles*
Anytime I see a character being consumed, I imagine it is me or I could be included.
Being surrounded by a warm moist blanket of flesh comforts and gives me a safe feeling of protection.
Besides the sensual, tactile feelings of the event, there is an emotional and psychological element to it as well.
Seeing lots of prey inside a character is also a turn on, as it makes the pred happy being stuffed, and it makes there more to hug and hold!
(The lumpier the better)
I would rather be the only lump in the belly, but being added to a pile of prey is also a turn on, as it would mean I would be held tight & squeezed closer to the preds belly wall.
So, sensual feelings of warmth & moistness, psychological feelings of being safe inside the one you love, and emotional feeling of being in love with the one who has slurped you.
(I like the idea of some struggle, whether it be in fun, or truly deciding mid-swallow, that this may not be the best idea. To let someone swallow you is scary, and being forced after giving in is very hot indeed...
Hope it's not TMI for ya, but those are my feelings ion Vore!
That is some really insightful imagery, and it definitely helps me understand soft vore fetishism more. I remember first looking at soft vore art and going, "Why are these victims so happy? Wtf?" As you can probably understand from seeing my own art, the thought of feeling safe inside of a predator is totally opposite to my school of thought -- then again I suppose I enjoy the torment a lot more than positive feelings. XD;
I'm glad you were so descriptive with your images -- this way if I ever do a soft vore piece for someone with similar views to yours, I can understand what emotions I need to relay with the art. Thank you!
And just to clarify -- would soft vore be the type where the prey is swallowed whole, as opposed to a hard vore where they are chewed or otherwise mangled by eating?
So if you ever draw for me, you will know what I like! *wink wink*
Hard vore is chewing-like in nature, bloody, ripping, etc.
Nasty in my opinion.
Thanks for opening up this discussion, I rarely get to share!
I can see how it would be an incredible contrast from soft vore XD; Definitely doesn't seem like the same thing at all!
And I'm glad you shared, thanks again Skunky!
The natural reaction when one finally realizes it was dumb to submit is that of torment, fear, sadness.
And I can totally imagine myself being all like, sure I'll do it, then freaking out, kicking when it is way past too late. Seeing the struggle there in that situation are much better than seeing someone forced from the beginning, or being totally accepting.
I love the strip you did for Rags,http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4539492
The last frame of the second comic really hits a home run!
and this one too.: Page 1 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5589556/
It goes from happy & loving to shock, fear, struggle and gurgles, blorps, and other internal noises that also make soft vore awesome for me!
(which I forgot to mention earlier) I like seeing when artists draw the noises, and belching!
Adds to the sensual, tactile, smell, temperature things that help a person put themselves into a scenario...
I came up with a cute scene Rags & I will discuss this weekend and see if it works for both of us!
If it goes over 4 panels, can we pay for & add more?
Take care!
I wasn't so sure about drawing/writing out the sounds of vore -- to me it seemed a little cheesy, but now that I understand that it's part of the tactile experience, to really feel what's going on in the scene, I'll definitely be making more of an effort to include that in commissioned vore pieces. I'm so glad you told me that!
And yay! I'm eager to see what you've come up with! You can definitely add more panels if it ends up going over -- I haven't worked out what I would charge for them yet, but I'll give it some thought and we'll see how it goes when I start working on your piece. (I'm so excited that you both like my art that much ;o; ahhh thank you for giving me an opportunity to do another sequential!)
And... what, really! XD I had no idea you hated real feet so much! Now I am SUPER CURIOUS ABOUT YOU PSYCHOLOGICALLY. Or at least interested in the effects of art/animation on fetishism, because it seems like we have something in common in fetishizing something that exists purely in fictional terms. (Feeding irl is gross to me, really irritating and not sexy.)
I remember being into it for a long time, consciously or not. I used to dream about it when I was a child, but the dreams seemed to scare me more than delight me, due to the twisted nature of my particular brand of the fetish. I did not realize that it was something I fetishized until I was much older.
I love the transition as well, especially if the character was originally thought to be quite attractive in their slim physique. The mourning over the lost figure is appealing to me, as well as the guilt and shame, as you said.
I agree that sometimes the proud ones seem less attractive to me -- unless of course, there is an additional element of danger from a sly predator.
Oh yeah..... so well put!
"I agree that sometimes the proud ones seem less attractive to me -- unless of course, there is an additional element of danger from a sly predator."
Like Daffy in "Holiday for drumsticks"!!
Chow Hound: a classic, where a dog overeats to the point of endangering his life. Classic line: "This time we didn't forget the gravy!"
The Wacky Worm: a crow force-feeds himself a treeful of apples to find a worm. Nice fat belly but not so hot face, turned green!
There's more I'm sure but that's what I have for now.
I'm reading a lot of responses that strike a chord with me, including your original post; certainly, it's a multi-faceted interest for me, and I recognized elements of my own fascination in almost every comment.
I've noticed that those of us who share this complex of fetishes often ask this very question; we're a self-reflective bunch. Why do we like what we like? Meanwhile, the impossible attributes of the hyper community seldom elicit such introspection, nor field such questions from outsiders. Nobody has to ask what the appeal of giant breasts and penises could possibly be; even those who who actively dislike such depictions get why others might find such exaggeration arousing.
As much as our culture has tried to deny it, big, round bellies are deeply, primally erotic. Food is as essential and primal a need as sex -- moreso, I dare say.
Certainly, gluttony, weight gain, and vore have been a part of my emotional make-up long before I was sexually aware, stemming back to my early childhood.
There's something profoundly satisfying about that fantasy of self-indulgence without repercussion. When I fantasize about weight gain, it's free of the catastrophic health concerns that plague real life; this may be a spoiler, but His Official Capacity won't end with Velachko succumbing to heart trouble or clogged arteries. At worst, in my fantasies, it's health-neutral; more often, the glutton grows healthier and more robust as he grows more rotund -- and more attractive, as well.
Gorging one's self to the point of discomfort just provides spice for that one bite past what you thought were your limits; depending on my mood, it prompts either a wistful sigh when there's still more delicious food that you simply can't contain -- or a determination to demonstrate that "limits" are for lesser appetites!
There's also, as you've pointed out, something equally profound about such self-indulgence or forced indulgence even in the face of dire repercussion. Insistent encouragement past one's better judgement, force-feeding, magical compulsions -- all of these things push "I want to indulge a pleasure" into "I can't help myself" -- and that, in turn, sneaks back around to "I don't really want to stop". The removal of free will grants a freedom to the glutton: if you know or suspect that you're going to explode or be devoured or simply gavaged until your heart gives out, well, then, loosing your deepest, most secret, most shameful desire is no longer your responsibility, now, is it? The attentions of the encourager, the compeller may besexual or predatory -- but they are, either way, undeniably erotic -- and on some level, deep down, the "victim" may confess to himself that becoming the ritual banquet for the lovely, persistent, attentive vixen is a small price to pay for a seat at a banquet of ultimate bliss.
... I think I'm awake now.
Your comment definitely caught my attention. Ahem. 83;
Your observations on the introspective nature of the weight gain/fatfur community are quite astute. The appeals of the fetish, though decidedly primal in nature, may not be apparent at first glance. When I tell most people that I have a fetish account, they become giggly and curious and want to see everything -- only to find that there are... no penises? No boobies? What kind of fetish is this?
On top of that, I think weight-gain fetishists do go against the "societal" grain -- as much as we would probably prefer a culture that revered larger body types, it is scarce to see any sort of encouragement or romanticization related to being fat. Bigger dicks? Yes, sure. Larger chest-melons? Most certainly. Big bellies? Oh, well, uh. I can recommend a nutritionalist for you.
I also had a strange relationship with weight gain and feeding as a child, so much that I was sure that the fetishism was actually more like my deepest fear, something I should eternally repress. The twisted nature of my fantasies brought about a mix of feelings that I simply did not understand -- it took me a long time to realize that whatever part of me resonated with these subjects could be channeled into a positive energy. Which may be why I'm so curious about everyone else's experiences with these types of fetishes!
Oh, and about heart problems/clogged arteries -- I make this face: 8S
While I like the meaner-spirited teasing and negative attention in some instances that gratuitous weight gain produces, when victims begin to have trouble breathing... it gets a bit too realistic for me.
Have you ever seen the movie Feed? I watched it once in a desperate attempt to get more wg/fat fetishism material, and I thoroughly regretted it by the end. I thought it had everything I wanted to see: a creepy feeder maniac, an enormous woman "victim"... but the film has some very graphic scenes that include health problems, and it's just... dear god. I should have known to watch a crime/thriller movie about weight gain. Definitely a negative depiction of any fat fetishist community. Then again, I think that the fatfur community is a bit removed from the human feeder/gainer community.
That last paragraph you wrote is lovely and I can think of no commentary to add. You've hit the nail on the head. Mm.
After reading this, I realized that the two furs in your Featured Submission were your two fursonas -- what a perfect depiction of the above!
... and yes, I completely grasp the "secret/forbidden/fear/repression" factors in the equation. "I shouldn't like this! It's not allowed!"
I will, on occasion, cut loose and allow myself to really stuff myself in Real Life on rare occasion -- but it's rare because I almost always feel the need for complete privacy when I do. On even rarer occasions, I will go out with friends to some place that dishes up large portions (Claim Jumper, for example), and there's an illicit thrill to gorging myself in front of an audience in socially-acceptable circumstances. "I am parading my most shameful secret right in front of you, and you have no idea!"
For the most part, I've moved past the Fear and Repression, though I'm hardly a deliberate gainer in real life (passing one's 40th year makes unintentional gainers of us all). I deliberately cultivate just a touch of "Forbidden Fruit", though; the very secrecy makes my Secret so much sweeter.
My hard knowledge on the intricate workings of sexuality is sparse at best, and any over-reaching theory of mine concerning the subject, once expressed, would probably result in millions of sexologists crying out in terror, and and then being silenced, but it's a good sport.
To get a clearer understanding of why certain things are found to be arousing while the others don't, the mechanics of our sexual perception should be examined. In order to get the signal for an arousal, specific triggering clues should be recognized in the stream of incoming sensory data, such as a body type adequate to one's sexuality, complete with the secondary sexual attributes of agreeable proportions, the acceptable apparent health and hygiene condition of this body, the behavioral patterns indicative of consent to intimate contact, plus the higher-brain sensibilities such as social conditioning and taboos. Considering how many things can go wrong during the metamorphosis of two cells into a mature organism, and the sheer complexity of both the sample data that responds to the sexy irritants and our perceiving apparatuses, it is no wonder that some wires get crossed in a way unintended by our biological schematics. Huzzah for the biodiversity born of such little mutations ! So, what was once programmed in our DNA as an erotic response to an abundance of adipose tissue padding the buttocks on the grounds of such physiological trait indicating a successful lifestyle and virility, could through a meager mishmash of parameters segue into an arousal being triggered by an entirety of the potential partner's physique being generously filled out. Apparently, the most basic aspects of sexuality are focused enough to be insured from these little changes, so most people may claim hetero-, homo-, bi-, pan- or asexuality to be the core of their erotic drive upon hitting puberty, and even these principal classes apparently are capable of drifting somewhat, or at least being discovered or admitted, over the course of lifetime. What does it say about the mercuriality of numerous shoals of quirks and kinks that follow these whales of sexual identity through the oceans of insecurity and lust ?
That out of the way, here are some thoughts on individual fetishes:
Soft Vore - its appeals have been speculated upon for a long time, and the general bullet points have been determined as following:
- domination/submission play so often associated with predators and prey(a common point for the vorarephilia in general);
- the sense of security, comfort and the Freudian "return to the womb" thing;
- the appeal of an enfolding mucous surface;
- stimulation of oral cavity and the esophagus;
- the immobilization(if similar-sized scenario, then for both the predator and the prey);
- asphyxiation(not everyone likes the logically following things of this sort);
- pain of digestion(masochistic appeal for the prey);
- squirming and moaning(sadistic aspect for the predator, plus the bonus of internal massage);
- ultimately, death (something a surprising lot of people find erotic);
Other fetishes I'm not very knowledgeable of.
Hard Vore is all about the painful sensory overload for the prey and the sadistic glee of tearing someone apart alive or the fascination of throwing the "alive/dead" switch, and feeling the recently inhabited flesh cool even as you start feasting on it for the predator.
Inflation has its main appeal in the intensely erotic savouring of the indisputable proof of how ineffective an economic system the capitalism is okay-okay, I'll knock it off, I'm only kidding. I don't know much about this particular fetish, but in addition to the general swelling out of proportion that fits the bill of many adjacent fetishes, it probably has something to do with the enjoying the feeling of one's digestive tract being swollen either with digestive gasses or some gas-releasing products like a soda, having a resounding borborygmus going and you're right, probably a thrill of testing one's stretchability.
Pregnancy I'm completely blanked out on, but its high points have been mentioned in the previous posts: the maternity thrill and the nurturing instinct tickling when referring to the forming baby, and the adulation for the sight of a pregnant belly(I imagine all social animals should be hard-wired in one way or the other to feel some awe towards the expecting mothers, and strong feelings of this sort often overlap with erotic urges).
Micro/Macro - again, not a giant fan, so some fairly baseless speculations only: there's got to be something in our hardware about creatures of sizes different from us, like the "flee from jumbos" and "taste the tiny-ies" imperatives. Alternately, "cling to the big ones for safety" or "protect the pee-wees, they may be your offspring" guidelines for operating within one's own species in regard to people of different ages. Either way, again - potent emotions with a potential of setting off the sexual alarm. Then there are all the possibilities for the full-body orifice insertion and things like that.
I apologize for a yet another wall of text. If you have read this far, your diligence and determination is only to be applauded.
On soft vore -- I had never considered it to be a return to the womb, that is interesting! Although looking at it now, the imagery is quite obvious. I wonder if this is related to other sects of vore as well? (I'm thinking here of... reverse-birthing, I believe it's called? And also "cock-vore"? Those I cannot even begin to relate to, perhaps because there is suddenly an emphasis on the physical genitalia.)
Hard vore -- that definitely makes sense. I like that you used the term "sensory overload," as I am sure that is very much a part of the appeal.
Inflation -- I know I'm supposed to go "*grooooan*" at those sort of jokes, but I couldn't help laughing aloud after realizing what you were doing. XD I'm sure there's a "failed economic system" fetish out there somewhere. Or at least a fetishization of wastefulness or catastrophe.
Pregnancy -- I certainly see your point on that one, and I bet it does have something to do with hard-wired evolutionary things, as pieces of these other fetishes do.
Micro/Macro -- Another angle I've never considered! Haha, "protect the pee-wees, they may be your offspring"... That is a wonderful way to put it. XD
Thats me all the way!
Returning to fetishes, I don't have any stake in genital vorarephilia, be it cock-vore or unbirthing, but my guess would be that it has something to do with high the sensitivity of genitals, so anything coming in or out would result in a cascade of sensory signals. I'm glad to have presented some new data for your consideration !
About the fetishizing of catastrophe and wastefulness, I've always felt that the zombie apocalypse scenario has much to do with it. Mundane horror genre sensibilities aside, it is a splendid excuse for wanton pillaging and shooting people - or at least the unliving effigies thereof.
A lot of the expansion fold sort of falls into a duality system of separate but necessary parts to complete the act. Like partners there’s a noun and a verb, someone and the other that does something to them. At times it’s spontaneous and others it’s oddly planned out but even if you like it for the imminent danger of the act it wouldn’t be much without the supposed predator and prey. In my case it’s more like predator and hunter, the one who does the unspeakable and the arbiter of their punishment.
