Worldcraft: Round FOUR.
Welcome to Round 4 of Worldcraft!
The Public Planet Poll has concluded and the winning planet has been chosen.
As before, you will have 3 weeks to work on an entry of your choice. The deadline for this round is SATURDAY, JUNE 25TH.
1) Artists!
Do you want to join the contest in creating creatures, insects or environments?
Yes? Reply here so we can add you to the list of participants! (no notes)
2) Donators!
If anyone is willing to give the winner a prize (a free sketch or something) please contact us by sending a note.
Your icon will be added to our front page, along with what you will give the winner(s).
If we can’t find anyone willing to donate a prize, we’ll try to find something else to give our winner.
RULES
- Have fun! (Very important!)
- You have about three weeks to complete your entry.
- The deadline is June 25th.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 04.
- Every submission must be accompanied by a bit of text that describes how your creature lives, eats, etc. (Unless your submission is a story or a landscape, of course).
The description of your creature will also be judged and will count toward the points you receive, so be sure to put some effort into it!
- You may draw as many images as you wish, but you must specify which two you want judged. If you do not, two will be picked at random.
- Contestants can't be judges; it messes with the scoring system.
- You can make a sketch, line art, fully colored drawing with or without background, write a story featuring a creature, make something out of paper-mâché or sculpt something in clay
Anything goes! What you want make is completely up to you.
Although we encourage people to be creative in many different ways, there are some things we won't allow:
- Terrain generators (Terragen, Bryce, DAZ Studio, etc...)
- Pre-made characters (Second Life characters or environments, etc...)
These programs require no artistic skill since it generates everything itself.
It does require the ability to compose a beautiful scene or character, but that's not the point of this contest.
HOWEVER, we do not wish to be completely unfair towards those who like this kind of artwork.
If there is a large enough demand, we will expand our contest to include a separate section for computer generated artwork.
Currently we will not accept this type of entries.
THE PLANET
A gas giant is a massive planet with a thick atmosphere and a dense molten core.
Gas giants are commonly said to lack solid surfaces, but it is closer to the truth to say that they lack surfaces altogether since the gases that make them up simply become thinner and thinner with increasing distance from the planets' centre, eventually becoming indistinguishable from the interstellar medium.
This gas giant is amongst the strangest of it’s kind.
Due to it’s composition, it’s a host for the most strange creatures encountered in this universe.
It’s colourful surface betrays the different gasses that move across it’s surface.
Lightning strikes arcing between clouds of gas are a common sight along with massive storms that, like massive waves rage through the planet.
The gas giant’s equator has to endure the fiercest of storms. Above and below the equator are calm zones, featuring a more diverse fauna.
Surrounding the gas giant is a ring of icy comets and dust like Saturn.
Creatures
1) A creature that floats in the upper layers of the gas giant.
2) A creature that travels between the gas giant and it’s icy rings for nourishment.
3) An enormous monster that resides deep in the gas giant’s layers and is mostly dormant, only ‘surfacing’ from below when in a feeding frenzy.
4) A critter that thrives only in the deepest of storms, absorbing the power from the lightning storms in order to survive.
5) A sluggish, floating creature that harvests the clouds of gas and serves as a feeding ground for smaller creatures.
6) A very fast pack hunter that slithers through the thick clouds, ambushing unaware prey.
Flora
1) In the icy rings surrounding the gas giant, an extremophile bacteria has evolved into a fungi-like organism, feeding off the icy rock and sunlight.
Landscape
1) A portrait of this colourful gas giant with it’s many rings and several small moons.
Vermin
1) Small energetic pests that, like leeches, feed from other creatures.
2) Energetic little wisps that comes in many different shapes. They are the ‘plankton’ of this gas giant.
When you send us your note, always write down your choice.
e.g.: Vermin2, Creature4, etc…
The deadline for your entries is Saturday JUNE 25TH at midnight!
Entries submitted after the deadline will still be faved and hosted, but won’t be judged.
HAVE FUN!

Added to the list of contestants!

And if not, there will be plenty more rounds and planets to come!
And if you can't participate, why not suggest a planet (with or without species) you would love to see next time ?
We'll add it to the next poll and maybe it'll get enough votes to be featured in Round 5! :)
How about a swamp planet? Full of amphibious creatures. Vast possibilities for creatures, landscapes and flora here.
Or maybe even a deep jungle planet? You could even (maybe) inculde a humaniod type creature for tribes or such. (and sneaky critters, gotta have sneaky critters)
There's few days left and I want to prepare the submission >___<"
You can count me in for this round 0w0
