I know for a fact that there are sex offenders around the world, I've seen alot of Law & Order: SVU, and the CSI's, now I know that they are fictional stories but I know that those writers must of read or heard of real cases of such horendous acts. I just checked to see if there are any in my area, I was shocked to see how many are in the city I live in. I know that some people choose to not believe there are pedophiles and sex offenders, it's only when they choose to believe so when it happens to them or someone they know.

Yes. And even when it happens to them or someone they know, sometimes they only dissasociate it all the more, although that's getting better these days, with more people talking about it and fighting back by spreading awareness like this. So we just have to keep open and honest to stay safe

Yes, but that kind of fear is what leads to blocking it out instead of equipping yourself with the knowledge to make these things not happen. I personally think it's very much preventable with the right teaching to your children, and the right preparation

Thank you for posting this. This kind of crap is disgusting and I don't understand why these people aren't put away for life, and when it has to get to the point where they are repeat offenders over and over again before the justice system locks them up for a substantial amount of time. =/
We got a postcard in the mail a few days ago about some guy charged with "aggravated sexual assault on a minor, age 13" with his mugshot on it, and said he lived about 3 blocks down from us. I wanted to go there and choke him. =(

I agree with you. And you know, people don't want to foot the bill for the jail system, but these people need to be locked up where they can never hurt anyone again. One good thing is that with the recent voting, an amendment passed that people who are put in jail for abusing others are now denied bail. But for those who even have the death penalty, it's amazing how long they sit in jail before the sentence is carried out, and that's what racks up the real money. Boy, I'm such a Texan, lol..

And I understand about the desire to choke that guy. I probably would just take a shotgun to him, so my hands wouldn't have to get dirty touching his nasty neck.

i had a boss once who treated me like total shit... found out later, after being fired for not meeting his superhuman expectations (or most likely not giving him anything special), that he was a registered sex offender. He wasn't a pedophile, but it's just a terrible thought to think that a sex offender had authority over me...

Yeah, it happens to adults as well, and adolescents, and teens, and even the elderly. But at least they have more of a chance of fighting back, and reporting it. Sometimes children don't even understand what's happened to them until much later

I'm glad you brought this up. Very useful. In my area, I was surprised that the Missouri side of the river had the least amount of offenders. But the Illinois side is shock full of them...and almost all of them have rape or sexual assault charges on them (I did a 20 mile radius search of my area). This makes me more afraid to venture over into that area now. And I'm definitely not planning on moving to that side of the river, either. It's just too dangerous.

I'm shocked about the Illinois part. I know that in spite of popular belief, alot of the Midwest states have some of the greatest problems, because everyone is so far out in the boonies they can get away with things..and they're more prone to keep the skeletons in the closet and not get reported

There are five within my zip code. Four of them were child molesters and two were women. I guess it shouldn't suprise me that there are a few in a small town as well.

So I'm looking up the list for my niece's parents for her and her two sisters, and my friend's fiancee. She has three young daughters, he has a three year old son of his own. They need to be protected as all little one's do.

I've seen some very heart breaking stories up here of little girls, and sometimes boys being kidnapped and weeks later finding them in shallow graves.

Now while I don't like to watch MSNBC because of how liberal they are, I do like what they are doing with that to catch a predator show. And of course Bill O' Reilly for exposing judges that only give child molesters very short sentences or nothing more than probation. Every state needs Jessica's law, named after the little girl in Florida who was taken from her bedroom, molested then killed. It give a first time offender 25 years, he or she reoffends, they get to die in prison.

The sad truth is that they're everywhere; small town or not. It's all the more incentive for me to move out to my own little domain and carefully screen anyone who even thinks about living nearby.

I'd say even twenty five years isn't enough. I'm a vindictive person, I'd rather see these people castrated, THEN locked up

I totally understand both feelings you had there, but I would go a step further and make them impotent. Castration only gives them the chance if they somehow do it again to keep the victim from getting pregnant and leaves less physical evidence.

And yes it is sad they are everywhere, because I would be looking to join you in your domain when you found it. I once had a co-worker that was trianing me on a route from a previous job. He saw a bunch of middle school aged girls walking home and expressed to me his desire for them. I mentioned they looked pretty young and he told me he didn't care. Well lets just say after a discussion with my new boss at the time, he didn't stay there very long.

Where I live everyone has children (myself excluded) but they're like my brother's and sisters. That's so scary thinking or even knowing people like that live nearby.

Just be sure to make sure everyone stays informed and nobody leaves their children unsupervised. It's all about the amount of time you invest in childrens safety

How shocking and disgusting! People who would harm children in such a way don't deserve to live, let alone be living in our neighbourhoods. It's an increasingly terrifying world for youngsters, and if I had children I'd almost be afraid to let them out of the house.

The thing about paedophiles is, that there is no 'cure' for it. The psychiatrists don't want to admit that all the therapy in the world can't change someone's sexual inclinations. If a man is a leg man, he's a leg man. If he likes breasts he's a breast man. Someone who is attracted to children will always be attracted to children. There's no more hope of changing that than there is of 'converting' a gay person (and I hope that comment is not seen as anti-gay, as it's not. Merely used as an example of an inclination that cannot be changed). It's simply how they are.

What sickens me though is how they're protected. Protected from society and even from the justice that they deserve. In the UK, speeding motorists are more heavily punished than a convicted paedophile.
It's not taken seriously enough and for the few that ARE jailed (which is notably, only for a few months. A horrifyingly weak slap on the wrist considering the many years of a young life they have destroyed) there's this cushy little thing called Rule 43, which means those prisoners are classed as "passive" and basically live it up like lords in cushy prisons 'for their own protection'. So they get to spend all day mixing with their own kind, no doubt learning new tricks and even organising new paedophile rings for whenever they get released in the handful of months they're sentenced for. Yes, because of rule 43 they don't even have to be locked up for the 23 hours a day that normal prisoners do!! They can come and go as they please, with satellite tv, videogames and internet access. It's a bloody holiday camp!

Indeed. I've no idea if such a system is in place in the USA but it is in the UK, though I think it's now been changed to or merged with Rule 45, which means prisoners who are being put like this 'for their own protection' (as the other inmates would want to give them a beating.)
